Had been looking for the last 3-4 mths, drove a few looked at a few more, then considered A124 cabriolets, just saw one of those in very poor shape today, dismissed it immediately.

Looking at the usual web sources, prices, specs and condition seemed to bear no relation to each other.

So Tuesday night past I had gotten back from Belfast and checked our local Gumtree, thought to myself, that looks nice, mileage a bit high but a decent ad to give an overall flavour of ...this car has potential. Had done a round trip of 230 miles to look at two cars so it was a long day. Fortunately it was dry and the test drive and checks ticked so many boxes I was genuinely flabbergasted and that only happens once in a pink, mauve, orange moon.!!!!

The seller has been a recent convert to the silver star (3-4 years) and has a minter W124 260 (50K miles) plus restoring/spending a fortune :p...on a 500SEL currently, he'd only had it 6/7 months but need to off load one of his three cars.

Did the usual visual checks, looked at all four jacking points, any dampness leaks etc, all very good or absent. The drive was exhilarating, tons of mid range poke, no shakes rattle or rolls, well impressed. Hood went up and down perfectly, hard top was mint.

Result? Hands shaken and deal done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:bannana:

As I'm off on holiday shortly I wont collect it til next month, roll on the summer!

Looks lovely!!

Thanks guys, its in my fav colour, superb leather combo and the added bonus of as new 17" AMGs, shod in, as new Goodyears, just two days ago I sought advice on the forum to make sure they were the real McCoy!

It also has a Pioneer multi-change CD unit in the boot ( not sure what the standard radio supplied in 1996?). Quite a bit of MD history, but not a huge amount later than 2005. However the two main issues/pre-requisites, how does it look, how does it drive were easily met with utter aplomb!

Lovely car :)

Looks very good indeed

Cheers guys.

Finally got around to collecting it. Drove fine down home 86 odd miles.

Noted a few things on way and then after arrival. The radio(Pioneer with cassette) would only pick up one station, then gradually stopped doing even that......likely diagnosis?

The seat back when switch used to move it back was pressed, it then started moving forward instead after reaching a certain point....issue?

Finally, the key fobs aint working, no flashes from little red window on corner, just battery or central locking issue?

Any suggestions or help appreciated.
