Well after de greasing the engine I found my oil leak.
Here's a picture. Could someone tell me what bolt
This is?
The oil is seeping from it when the engine is running.

Also I would just like to thank everyone for all the great help I've received on my previous post.

If its the largest item I think its the timing chain tensioner. There are some o ring/s in there. Probably worth just buying a new tensioner- but be careful- they have to be fitted in a particular way to avoid damaging the timing gear. also quote your chassis number when ordering since the design of these varied over the years. typical item 32 :- http://mb.neoriginal.ru/part/class/...bgr/045/retcat/45H/rettype/202/retsubtype/078

That bolt came lose on my 220 CDI, and effectively drained all the oil from the engine... luckily it happened close to home, so I stopped the car when I got the low oil level warning, and I had a friend tow me to the workshop. A few hundred miles after, my alternator quit, and I think it might have to do with it being flushed with oil..

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful.

Cheers craig
