Hi chaps, I'm brand new to the forum and brand new to the brand, and really quite excited to share my latest purchase with like-minded individuals. I'm a lifelong petrolhead, but with very few purchases along the way to show for it (my last car - a Honda Prelude Vti - was with me for 15 years!), but last year I decided that I needed an epic V8 in my life. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, this year I finally bit the bullet and plumped for my full fat W212 E63S in Tenorite grey, and I absolutely love it.
I love the event that is hitting that start button, purring around in the lovely cabin (so glad I didn't get that M3...), the horizon shrinking thrust that can really only be enjoyed in very short bursts and with senses at red alert, that noise, the absolute approving consensus by non-enthusiasts that I have a beautiful car... And did I mention hitting that start button? Very happy camper. Apologies for the lack of photo, but as a newbie I seem unable to upload one (file too large?).
Atb, Chris.

Good move, although to be fair the old Preludes were ahead of their time. The really old one had four wheel steering, not sure if yours did though?

You either have to resize the picture or use a hosting site. I use imgur as it's free and then you just copy the link entitled BB Code into your post.

Thanks...try this Feel Good factor 9
Mine did have 4 wheel steer, which is an awesome feature for parking, especially parallel parking, and I do miss that, although my E63 will parallel park itself... Lol, haven't had the bottle to try THAT feature, yet!

Welcome, and what a motor, for your 1st Merc.
:)

I know! The decision making process featured boring the missus to tears on several occasions, but she always said, 'Is it the one you actually want?' This always brought me back to pushing the boat out as far as I could take it to achieve the end result...SO glad I had that support.

My neighbour use to have a Prelude. It been under a tree for 8 years, replaced the fuel pump, new petrol and battery. After a couple of goes it fired on all cylinders. Pumped up the tyres and passed MOT with couple minor advisories. Every thing worked including re-gassed AC. These cars are well made.

Slade1, can't believe I've ended up talking about/bigging up my Prelude despite the original post, but you are right...it was a considered buy at the time and I thoroughly enjoyed ownership of an unusual, non-sporty coupe (dissed out of hand by Clarkson, which only made me laugh) and also raised 2 children in it! Peach of an engine.

Carlls...many thanks! :)

Hi enjoy your new car.

Thanks. Is the feelgood factor particular to MB brand (beautifully put together and just a little bit imperious), or is it simply the fact that I now own a super saloon, because I AM truly enjoying it? Lol, I'm still very excited, so please bear with me... :D

Looks lovely!!! Which M3 were you considering out of interest, F80?

Si

Woody, many thanks...nice to be here!

Sydoo, no, it had to be a V8, and so an E92 coupe was the only option, as I don't like the rear aspect of the saloon. I've just burbled home from a Mother's Day family pub outing as a passenger, missus singing all the way as she drove...it's such a happy machine! :D

Great, I love your choice in cars too. You'll love the E63.

The Prelude VTi was a great car! I was just watching the PFI video today, with a turbo'd H22 with just replacement rods and pistons inside, making 800bhp at the wheels! Awesome.

That's hilarious! I can say that mine was an H22a engine, but it was black in colour and lacked the enormous ill-fitting turbo. I can also say that mine ran every day for 15 years in my ownership without the need for a laptop to be plugged into it, or endless tweaking. Loved my vtec and the hours of 'turbo vs vtec' banter that abounds on the scene!

Jrattan, thanks. How long have you had that n/a 6.2 of yours, and what do you think of it? It was that motor that first drew me, and I took a long time to decide to go the biturbo route.
