Fitting clear ppf

I am just about to have clear ppf fitted to my AMG GTC front bumper/valance. It is probably the most expensive part to have covered due to the shape and complexity (£550 + vat).

My question is do these GT cars need to have the wings and bonnet covered or does the bumper suffer most of the stone chips?

I cannot answer your direct question but if you go ahead don't forget to inform your insurance company.

One member on here had a claim declined for not declaring the PPF.

Is the paint already free of stone chips and damage? If not then the PPF won’t adhere and will start to bubble up and lift in those places.

Personally if the paint is free of damage then I wouldn’t just do the bumper, I’d do it all or not at all. If you do it all, get the paintwork corrected first.

Sadly, you'll probably notice chips on the bonnet and wings more than you will on the bumper and valance.

PPF does do a wonderful job of protecting that precious paintwork from from chips and swirls, but it is expensive because it is so difficult to apply

Yes the paintwork was paintwork corrected and it is totally chip free. I think the previous owner must have driven round with it covered in bubble wrap. :)

You are not wrong on the cost and the front bumper is the hardest to fit for these cars. The whole car apart from the bumper has had the polish and ceramic coat which will help with the swirls but I agree not chips. Maybe I could get the wings and bonnet done. Having just done a full service and all new injectors in the last 4 weeks I think my wallet would like a break.

I feel your pain.

My detailer does a lot of PPF on "special" Porsches. He's always got something interesting in when I visit him. I politely ask how much a full job has cost, and when he quotes a number between five and ten, I usually have to find a chair "for a moment."

It looks fabulous, and explains why concours cars look so great, but lawks it takes a lot of work to prepare the car and do it perfectly

I can't believe how far we've come in just a couple of decades.

I would imagine most insurers would be fine with clear PPF but not colour PPF.
Unsure why would clear be OK?

The issue with the claim I mentioned was that if PPF is fitted and the car needs a repair to that section then the cost to the insurance company goes up and it wasn't something they had been aware of when setting the premium.

Although in this case it was overturned because, I believe, the policy didn't specifically exclude it other companies may have it in their T's and C's 👍

That's a good point. Well hopefully if I had a front accident and the bumper was smashed it would be replaced, or I would remove the film myself if it was minor damage.

As long as your insurer is informed and they raise no objection (in writing) you shouldn't have any problem.

I did consider getting this done, but since I don't have a special "Magno" or metallic paint, getting a respray done is a lot cheaper than getting PPF ....
