Fix one squeek, find another!

My passenger side headrest was making a rather annoying squeek/creek noise which I managed to cure by simply removing it and then fitting it.

Anyways, now that's all nice and quiet, another nice & annoying squeek/creek/rattle has surficed...seriously, I've never had a car that squeeks like this one!! It seems to be coming from underneath the car, located almost centrally beneath the tranmission tunnel, but the sound manages to penetrate the cabin quite clearly.

What are the likely culprits? I was hoping something nice and simple like an exhaust mounting but in all honesty, I have got a scooby doo!

What ever you do, do not purchase an ML. Drove one the other day, it sounded like a very polite explosion in a shoe leather factory through a cinema surround sound system.

to be honest mine squeaks The CLK's interior is cheap imho my uncles ML on the other hand is solid.. i rememer my first time in a update 202 it seemed plastic compared to the preupdate which is the same feeling i get in the CLK

squeeks,rattles,creeks..all irritating, can't stand them! One of the hardest things to find in any car. Alot of it is temperature related as rubber and bushings tend to expand in mid to high temp. Of course this is not to say that you should live with it. In your case check transmission/exhaust mounts if it's a rattle.

Creek or squeek check bushings on the shifter below gear lever, quite common on w210 autos. Sometimes a small plastic bush that only cost 50p can drive you mad! While driving hold the gear lever firmly and see if you can feel a vibration or it if stops while holding then it's a bush.
