hello all,

I have a 2001 E class w210, 200k. The fluid in the bottle on the right hand side (front) of the engine bay. It is just to the side of the washer bottles. What do I top this up with as it is below the min level and there is no clue in the owner manual.

I assume it is power steering fluid, but can someone confirm this and advise me,

Kind regards to all,

Matt

I don't know, but in the absence of any other reply, it sounds like it might be the radiator expansion tank, so please don't put power sterring fluid in there until you're sure.

When you say "right hand side (front)" - do you mean as standing at the front of the car, looking towards the back?

Its on the right hand side as you look into the engine bay from the front of the car. (just behind the left hand headlight).

yes it is behind the left hand headlight when you are driving i.e facing the front.
it is on your right when you get out and look into the engine bay

I would say it is your power steering resevoir, topping up should be done with MB power steering fluid only, the part number is often on the lid.

Is it an estate?

If it is it will be the self leveling and PS fluid resevoir. Fill only with Central Hydraulic fluid. Number on top of the resevoir.

it is an estate. I will look on the top of the reservoir bottle to see if there is a number. Sounds like I need to get the oil from MB Dealer, is that correct?

I assumed initially that it was the power steering reservoir, but do not want to risk it,

thanks for your advice,

Matt

The oil is available from Euro Car Parts.

It is called Central.
