Foodies.....

The Company Shed - West Mersea, Essex

The Duke of Cumberland - Near Midhurst W Sussex

The Crown - Stoke by Nayland - Essex/Suffolk border

Fat Boys Cafe ? Will have to give that a go. The one on Kingston Road is just a normal cafe with a rubbery steak :P

Most of my fav restaurants are in London but one that stood out on a recent trip was the Crazy Bear restaurant - Oxfordshire. Nice hotel too if your Mrs is into the artsy type stuff.

Is the Three Chimneys all it's cracked out to be, I've heard different stories?

I was there about 7 years ago and had a great few nights, a year later I wanted to impress guests with one of their recipes, phoned them up, reminded them what the meal was called (it wasn't on the menu any more) and the chef talked me through how to make it !

Its little things like that that stick in my mind.

I too have heard mixed reports since, but when I went the food was excellent. I recommend the "Bag O' Salmon" and if you can't get to IoS, I can dig out the recipe and you can try it at home ;)

That's the Crazy Bear at Stadhampton - did you go for the Thai or the standard kitchen ?

Yeap thats the one :) We tried the thai one night and the bar area bit the next which was best as they let you try both kitchens.. great food !

Have made reservations for the London branch this weekend to compare

Following John's thread about favourite food, how about three favourite Restaurants? And to make it more fun, no London restaurants allowed (too easy and I include Manoir and Fat Duck as London for these purposes!!

So to open the batting I offer:

"Hibiscus" Ludlow
"Moody Goose" Bath
"Loughpool" Sellack

From a selfish point of view I'd be very interested to hear of any in Northamptonshire & environs.

1) Chon Chola - (Indian) - Warsash, Hampshire. :p
2) Pearl Harbour - (Chinese) - Southampton.
3) Nando's - (Portuguese) - Basingstoke. (Favourite) :bannana:

And as an added bonus, you can smoke in all of them, well for the time being....lol.....

Where's the one on Kingston Road ?

Sorry got my roads mixed up, it's Cambridge Road between Kingston and New Malden just next to the car rental place. Also on the same road is "Aroma", bit further towards NM then Kingston and a absolutely lovely Shoarma - a must if you're into kebabs.

They used to be in Chiswick.....very good they are too
Fat Boys still is, in Edensor Road, Corney Reach in Chiswick...it is a greasy spoon during the day and transforms into a Thai at night, it is the original one.

Harry's Bar is out of area!!.....in any case is not as good as the one in Venice:rolleyes:

Debateable

Momma Cherri's - Brighton
Green Man - Partridge Green, Sussex

Am I allowed La Coupole / Quai D'Artisan in Monaco? - easier to get to than the Isle of Skye for me...

It is, she's a real character, she's been on a few radio & TV progs also. I'll be trying it next time I'm in Brighton.

Yep, it's not in London!!

Anybody going to Padua (very near Venice & much much cheaper) drop me a line, I lived there for a few years and know all, and I mean all the restaurants.:D

Mmm, the Venice one I know well and it really is very good, a bit expensive true, the London one I have not tried because the reviews have mostly been pretty awful. I know reviews are not always right but when ten people tell you your flies are undone....maybe they are!

Cast your beadies over this first! http://www.brightonlife.com/reviews/index.php?venue_id=100051]
This is the trouble with restaurants - or cars - or anything else come to that. One man's meat etc.

It would have been helpful to have had an indication of the price for a meal for two with drinks for the favourites on this thread.

I rather suspect that Fat Boys Cafe or Cap'n Jaspers are somewhat cheaper than The Three Chimneys - think around £160 for dinner and drinks for two.
Lucky old Mozzer having a 'great few nights'. Budget for around £500 per night all in

For around half that, try Kinloch House - a proper hotel in more attractive surroundings http://www.claire-macdonald.com/.

In Glasgow, The Ubiquitous Chip still has much to recommend http://www.ubiquitouschip.co.uk/index.htm although you can easliy spend as much on a bottle of wine as for the entire meal...

For paupers, try the Anstruther Fish Bar http://www.insiteswd.co.uk/theanstruthefishbar/about_us.htm - The queue is like that all the time!

I was a bit disappointed last visit - wifey's office bash at Xmas - but is usually very good. Be warned that it is very tiny, so worth booking in advance. Difficult to get in when turning up on spec, and the lunch queue starts not long after 11!

Hrrrm...that's a hard one to quantify for me, so I'll just go with the ones I seem to always end up in, as they can't be bad if I keep going back.

Newbury - Valle D'Oro, The Vineyard (as already recommended) & Donnington Valley Hotel (where I got married).

Southampton - Kairali, Namaste Kerala, Pilgrim House ('cos you can fill your face on crispy duck)

There's also a superb place in Gent, which does ribs..they keep coming, and coming...and coming. As much as you can eat. Mad place, they bought a load of houses in the middle of town and knocked doorways through the walls. Can't remember the name, like most of my trips to Belgium I seem to be pissed most of the time.
