Hi I purchased a new GLB just under two years ago, at the first service and 5000 miles I reported a "kicking" from the brakes and was told its fine, the second service at 12000 has just taken place and whilst the "kicking" is no worse I mentioned it again. Its just had new discs fitted as they were warped along with new pads @ £490. Should this not be covered by warranty at such a low mileage. The dealer has told me wear and tear is not covered!!!
ps its a Glasgow dealer

Discs + pads are classed as consumables , will be a tough job to get them replaced under warranty.

Did you feel that the discs were warped or were they replaced on the say-so of the dealer ?

FWIW , £490 using genuine discs / pads / sensors and possible caliper bolts is still expensive but not worth jumping off the Erskine Bridge over.

Normally and totally dependent on driving style + usage , 25k ish from front pads / discs at 50k , rears 40k plus and discs at 80k.

Discs + pads are a good earner for the dealer , replaced my pads today as i was told that the rear brakes were needing replaced the last time the vehicle was in at the dealer , on removal the rear pads were around 60% worn and the discs were >50% worn so with my annual mileage i could have got another five years from them but who doesn`t like a new set of brakes.

We had tremble under braking so replaced discs and pads at the front.

Less trembling now, but still some. Have we got new, warped discs?

The new discs are ATE, made in China.

Who knows?

I did then buy a set of genuine MB discs but haven't fitted them yet.

How the cash disappears!

Probably wear in the front control arms buddy .

Probably wear in the front control arms

We've done a lot of checking in that area and so did the Controle Technique (MOT) guy a couple of weeks ago.

Control arms replaced 2017, together with just about everything else!

I've heard it said that if you keep your foot on the brake after heavy braking (maybe at a motorway exit) the pads clamping on that part of the disc can cause warping.
Also if the hub to disc surface is not cleaned/derusted when the discs are replaced the discs will sit unevenly on the hub and warp. My wife had this a number of times with a Peugeot 406, it was only when it went to a different main dealer that the problem was resolved

The action you describe does not warp the disk, but can leave a deposit that causes juddering on subsequent brake application that is commonly mis-interpreted as a warped disk.

OP , in my opinion warped discs is not a 'thing' on a road car , they are big heavy things (11 + KG) designed to be used by drivers of every skill level , last a while and keep the car manufacturer out of court/jail if they fail = over engineered.

It would be interesting to see if the dealer who replaced them ran a DTI on them while on the hubs and/or in a lathe ......highly unlikely.

As Kenny says #2 replacing brake parts is a good earner for garages.
