I am in a pickle with the state of the front of my car. I drive motorway miles about 90% of the time and have got a huge collection of stone chips and marks. Its getting to the state that no mater how much I polish the bumper it doesnt look as good as the rest of the car. Its Obsidian black and the rest of the car has been polished up. The paintwork on the merc I found to be really tough and can take a lot from a DA polisher.

What would the price be to get the bumper and bonnet resprayed and would this involve getting the chips filled in?

Would an insurance company fill in the chips and respray the whole front end if there was an accident with some child and a hammer? ;)

I should think about £250 to do the front bumper. Not sure about the bonnet. All the paintwork would be sanded first to flat out any defects and stone chips filled with primer.

Can't imagine it would be worth losing a life on your insurance when you've got to pay the excess on your claim too but that would be a personal decision.

Insurance claims are held on a database and certain claims that, shall we say, sound less plausible? may be investigated.

£150 excess. True with losing a life. Knowing my luck I will have an accident soon afterwords as 'Karma is a *****'.

Would the quality still be the same? I know the paintwork on Mercs are known to be as hard a ceramic when it comes to polishing. Could get it resprayed and then put 3M clear vinyl over it to protect from future stone chips.

A good body shop will be able to get a better paint finish than the original factory finish.

You could certainly have Paint Protection Film applied to protect against future damage. I'm not sure if you can do it straight away after painting or if you need to leave some time for the paint to harden off. The body shop would be able to advise you.

I paid £1200 for a front bumper and bonnet blending the wings and mirror casings on a Tanzanite blue CLS with a good body shop.

You'd never know apart from no stone chips.. I'm sure it's sitting some Where peppered again!

Where are you OY06ZGO such a clean car I daren't drive it in the end. Fail.

There is carlton cars in Gloucester opposite the Hospital.
Ask for Roger, one of the guys who has a SL silver arrow took his car there & was happy with the paint job.
