Hi can anyone help...?

I have a 13 plate CLA180 and my front left passenger airbag appears to be disabled and I don’t know why, I’ve never had a baby car seat and rarely have passengers in it. On the messages it says “front left passenger airbag malfunction, consult workshop”. Can anyone give me advice or if you’ve had this issue before let me know what you’ve done to sort it out.

Many thanks in advance

The most likely cause is a faulty Front Passenger Seat Occupancy Sensor.

It's a sort of 'mat' full of tiny micro switches that is built-in into the front seat, and its purpose is to detect when there's weight on the seat (i.e. when the seat is occupied). The front passenger airbag is deactivated by default, i.e. so that in the event of a crash it won't deploy needlessly if no one is sitting in the passenger seat. The front passenger airbag will only deploy (in the event of an accident) if the sensor tells the SRS system that the seat is occupied.

But the only way to be sure is to have the car connected to a STAR diagnostic computer and read the fault codes, it will tell you exactly which SRS system component failed.

This is what the

Front Passenger Seat Occupancy Sensor mat looks like:

Thanks for you fast reply, I will get it booked in with a garage ASAP. Do you know if it’s like to be an expensive fix for the sensor?

Said that... check also the electrical connectors at the base of the passenger seat, make sure they are seated properly, especially if the seat was recently moved all the way back or forth e.g. for cleaning etc.

Thanks mate, yes I’ll check it, I’ll let you know how I get on hopefully it’s a loose connection

I paid £130 for the sensor, plus £100 labour (it involves removal and disassembly of the front seat), but this was a few years back, plus the mats for different models have different prices (mine was a 2006 C-Class at the time). So I would geuss anything between £250 to £350 from an MB specialist, probably more from a dealer. But as I said please get the issue diagnosed with STAR first because it can also be one of vert many other things.

Thanks mate, I will give them a message, thanks for you help!
