Hi folks - I did a full rebuild on the brakes of the Coupe - When I got the car they were in a shocking extremely rusted & siezed condition - basically scrap. The drivers side front caliper was siezed Rock Solid as there were no boots fitted on the bottom slider at all!
All Calipers & disks replaced along with hoses etc. I got the bigger Front Calipers from a breaker (mail order) - I think they are from a CLK but not sure. They only JUST fit inside the standard Alloys. I bought the bigger disks (drilled) to suit as well & replaced the rear calipers/Disks too. It took a while.......... 😎 Warning - Lots of pics follow.....

Starting at the front

And now on to the Rear brakes

New Disk & Caliper fitted.JPG

I also fitted new shoes/springs for the parking brake - A very frustrating & difficult job!!

You should notice a big difference in leverage physics !

What make are the brake discs ?

Hi there - I think they are Brembos but I can't actually remember for sure. 🤔

I just realised on looking at the pics again that I've actually put them on the wrong way round! the drillings should face away from forward movement to vent the gases produced......... Guess I'll have to pull it all apart again to remedy that.

They not Brembo , possibly Pagid...

Which means....

Have you checked the other side? There’s usually one going the ‘wrong’ way as both discs are the same.

Ah. Errrrrrrrrrr......... I'll check on Saturday when I'm back where the car is stored. DOH!
Pagid is likely the make right enough - I think I got them from EuroCarParts. The Brembos might be on my Audi.

The direction of the drill holes was discussed recently. Some of the more OCD afflicted members of the forum have been unable to sleep since!

Does anyone actually recognise what the calipers I upgraded to are actually off? I think its a CLK but am not really sure...... 🤔

Good grief. How did they get that bad; they look like the car has been sitting in a damp place near the sea for years to get like that. I would be concerned about the rest of the car if the calipers are shot to bits like that.

You are, in fact, exactly right Smiley! The car did, indeed, live at Crimond on the coast, right by the sea for the time my Uncle had it (several years).
It also suffered somewhat from a 'back street garage' level of servicing & repairs - only ever just enough to keep it running.
Hopefully, I can do better.......
The rest of the car is surprisingly good - I already cleaned up & painted/undersealed the whole back end & also inside the front arches have been treated the same. I still have to address the rusty wheel arches but, hopefully, they can be saved.
