G55 Amg

I think the G-wagen is the ultimate vehicle in its class, but AMG?? It just seems so crazy.

If you want a performance vehicle then go for a performance vehicle.

John

Can anyone remember the test they done on Top gear where hammond drives the G63 AMG, man that thing FLEW!!!!!!
i kindda like the old box shape of it and with the AMG you get a flying box....lol

And you dont see many of these on the road, which i think makes it that little bit special....

Seeing as these now only come in LHD format then a new 2008 specification G-class 55AMG is only $110,000.

The official mpg for this vehicle is = 10mpg  So I would expect in real world driving to see that figure crucified.

That's the whole beauty of it, it's just so wrong

People know they cost a fortune to buy, and they cost a fortune to run. The practicalities of cars that are a status symbol isn't always important. It's about being different, driving something that is unusual, turns heads and is quite rare.

I can see the appeal of them. Chunky 80's MB build quality and a 500+bhp supercharged V8, makes a lovely sound, and I'm sure it'll surprise a few people if you prod the throttle on a straight piece of road :D:rock:

I love the styling and as you say 0 - 60mph in 5.4 seconds is not hanging about  :bannana:

It's a shame that one for sale is the earlier N/A 354bhp version. An awesome and (don't call me crazy) beautiful piece of kit!

It's been up for sale for a fair little now. Good barginning tool for any members interested ;)

Darren

So it is, I didn't check the one on eBay in any detail.

Even so, no slouch with even the 354bhp, 5.5L V8. For a heavy 4x4 at least.

Will

Awesome or not, it still looks like a 1989 mitsubihi shogun/pajero, Its a real brick. Talking of which I'll stick with my 210 brick :p at least it a diesel

I owned a Range Rover Vogue (the original shape one) into which I had a tuned 4.6 litre V8 (circa 300hp) and apart from suspension and brakes left everything else standard. (used to average 12-15 mpg - but did once manage 8mpg) just loved the sound of it:-)

It wasn't exactly a sports car but it was certainly fun (especially seeing the face of the Golf Gti driver as you left them:-))

So I kind of understand the G55 AMG, but it would make more sense to me without shouting about what it is. i.e no badges....

You mean the Shogun/pajero looks like the late 70s G-Wagen ;)

Whenever I drove these first Range Rover's 'enthusiastically', I would be very fortunate to get 8mpg. I dread to think what a bored out 4.6ltr thingie would return. :)

Surprisingly it didn't actually make a whole lot of difference. Mine was a 1989 3.5Efi originally, and I think the engine was a little underpowered so when I put an overpowered unit it I guess it returned a better cruising rate but lower when you floored it.

It all seemed to stay about the same, which surprised me.

I was considering an LPG conversion and the only reason I didn't bother was the lack of LPG service stations at the time on Surrey.

Sold it because I couldn't get the wife insured on it, she'd just passed her test, a modified Range Rover wasn't a sound prospect. In hindsight they were right;)
