Hello.
My problem with the gearbox is so-called loss or throwing out of the probably 4th gear during acceleration. When the car is released slowly, the gear (probably the third one) will start and I can continue drive. The second problem is, I guess, going into limp mode, blocking in third gear without the possibility of changing the gear manually. After stopping the car, turning the ignition off and on, everything returns to normal. Both problems occur with only slightly dynamic rides with elements of overtaking, while in a delicate / calm journey problems can not occur even for 1000 or more kilometers driven.
Work done so far in this case is replacing the electrical conductor plate with a new one together with the oil of course, a filter, a gasket. Oil on which the rest was made not more than 25 thousand km was clean, without traces of filings. The gearbox was and is dry without the slightest sweating even. Replacing the ecu for second hand with exactly the same number immediately switches to emergency mode and here the first question is: Do you need to adapt somehow to my car from another car gearbox ecu? Any ideas how to solve this problem?
Errors that were before attempts to repair and still occur are: P220A P2500

Well P220A is the speed comparison sensors on the electro-plate and the P2500 indicate a slipping transmission? The latter could also be a faulty or wrongly coded TCM.

Compatibility between cars may depend on the age of the car.

Sometime around 2004/5, MB declared the gearbox electro plate as a 'theft relevant part' and replacements required SCN coding to the car (via Star online to Germany; i.e. dealers and indys who had paid for the subscription). Also thought that the US requirement for very tight control on parts that might affect emissions had a part to play here.

Didn't think that 722.6 boxes were affected by this, as I am sure I have seen mention in other posts of swapping 722.6 electroplates without coding. Certainly my 2006 CLK280 with 722.9 required SCN coding when its electroplate was swapped out for a new one.

The work around, by the way, is to get your failing electroplate repaired by a third party company. Then it retains the identity match to your car and SCN is not required.

Just had my E220 CDi 5-speed box electric plate changed for a similar reason.
Automatic stuck in third
The part is theft related and MB will only supply a repairer with STAR when you prove to them that you are the owner. I had to send them V5 page 2, passport or photo DL and sign a form, and I was told that the mechanic had to provide proof of identity too.

My fault codes were:
P0717 (0717)'Y3/6n2 (RPM sensor 2)'is defective or its power supply has an open circuit.
P0730(0730)The transmission has an impermissible transmission ratio.

Had the work done at Benztec Ltd, Brierley Hill, West Mids. Cost was £534.48 all in. The new part had to be programmed by STAR for my car.
