Hi,

So I was doing a little bit of spirited driving, and using kickdown a fair bit. I was probably driving for about 30mins. The car was up to temperature before I was pushing it.

Then when driving at about 20mph I floored it a little and it kicked down, but then massively kicked down and the car jolted forwards. i immediately took my foot off the accelerator.

The car then seemed quite hesitant when travelling at slow speed. I came to a full stop and the car stalled. On retstarting I moved off fine/ I attempted a kickdown but nothing happened.

The car had it's ATF changed less than 800 miles ago, by a good mechanic.

Really appreciate any thoughts/checks.

The car is the facelift version, the on board computer states no malfunctions.

Thanks,
R

Maybe Maff.Unplug it and give it a try

Take it to a good indi MB specialist - they can check the ATF level and see if anything comes up on STAR.

If the level is low or something I wouldn't want to drive it too much until it's sorted :)

Cheers Will.

ATF - shouldn't be the case given that it was only recently changed by a comptent mechanic. Unfortunately they do not live anywhere near me.

The trouble is...there seems to be no recommended MB specialists in North London.

compentent mechanic doesnt mean anything, on my c36 even after the new gearbox was fitted it wasnt changing correctly, when asked if it could be the ATF level, he said it shouldnt be but checked anyway, said it looked near the top but 1/2 ltre couldnt hurt, so we topped up by half litre, everything sorted after that!

get it checked and maybe get it on star for a readout of the error codes

Get the ATF level checked first then bung it on a Star. Pop up and I will do it for you FOC. It takes 2 mins.

Thanks Olly, most kind of you...if only you were in London. It's a little too far to go with a dodgy gearbox.

Why is there no forum recommended London indy??:(

What ATf was used? I am only asking just incase they used the wrong type. The first thing to do it to check the level.

Not sure what ATF was used, but I'm assuming it was the right stuff.

Do you have AA or RAC cover? Could you not get it recovered to the mechanic? It may not be their fault but I would get them just to check it to be sure. Do they have a Star? Are they a MB specialist?

They are an MB specialist, but they are really far away from me, so i seriously doubt anyone would tow it.

I'll try and get Willow to check the bits and bobs for me.

Wish I could take this down to you Olly, everyone wants £40+ to stick it on a mchine...and not even a STAR.

Get it recovered then. You have RAC/AA cover?

I take it you have had no luck getting it sorted?

that will be the minimum diagnostic charge pretty much anywhere... at least it will give you an idea of the issue.
