Gearbox servicing, is it part of the normal schedule?

Thats a bargain, wonder what ATF they used, I was thinking of using Fuchs
Fuchs Titan ATF 7134 FE Low Vis Mercedes 7G Tronic Plus
To make sure that you are using the correct fluid ( any fluids for MB) google MB BEVO List, For my 2014 220 Eclass, with the 722.9 transmission, with stop / start, the code to look for is BEVO 236.15. And one of the MB aproved trans fluid is :- Fuchs Titan 7134 FE. Its a blue colored fluid. I ordered 20 Ltres of it from EBAY Uwe Kezzler GMBH & Co. Cost me €130 delivered to Ireland.

Geoffus, here is some additional info I dug up for you: The kit I used was from Meyle. Nr . 014 135 1410, and it contains the correct filter ( nr.014 135 1107 ) plus gasket, replacement sump bolts, oil level tube, TC drain plug and sump bolt washer. Total cost was €70 delivered to Ireland. The Meyle site gives good vehicle identification info too, so you can match your veh to the correct kit.
Good Luck

I don't know what fluid they used but I would imagine is was the correct type. The company I used came highly recommended by more than one person. I thought that it was a good price myself as the car I had before this one was a Jaguar S Type which I had for over 11 years and the last gearbox service I had done by an Indy was £426.00

Yes that's one of the kits I looked at, with the MB approved oil you are looking at around £150 so I thought the £180 price was exceptionally low .

The problem with Automatic transmission fluid change, especially in the MB 722.6 trans is that an unscrupulous mechanic can just open the drain stud, allow as much oil to drain as possible, and then replace the amount drained. And can truthfully say that he has drained and replaced the oil. This is sharp practice, but to say that it has not happened borders on the unbelievable, and of course, its not something that any reputable workshop would do. Moral of the story is beware of bargains that seem to be too good to be true...🙄

When I rang a few indies for quotes on my 2015 c250 with 7g+ , most quoted £200 to £220 .

I've read on here from a reputable source that mb themselves only ever do this , giving a 60% diluted oil change .. I rang my local dealership and was put through to a guy named Tom Jones , so I asked the question and he said , "its not unusual "

Well, when you are coming from original official MB position of the trans fluid never needing changing, and sealed for life ( 722.6 Trans ) its understandable perhaps. But then again, surprise, surprise..they make the shocking discovery that the fluid DOES need changing.( when queried about this, MB reputedly said that they never said whose life !!!! ) And so, ATF changing was included as part of the normal servicing routine. There are quite a lot of owners who follow this "quick " part change schedule...Remove the sump, change the filter and fluid, and then maybe 5'000 or 10'000 miles later, change the fluid again, but not the filter, and repeat until the next filter change is due. The theory being that over time, the % of new ATF will increase, and do the same job as a full 100% change will do. Personally, I think that this is sharp practice, and I'm100% against it. For me an ATF change means that ALL the fluid is changed,,,Sump, TC, Cooling radiator and pipes. Then aside from routine checking, forget about it for the next 40'000 / 75'000 miles as the case may be . But for sure, just draining the sump would be the simplest and quickest option, even if not best practice.

Thanks for the link, will head there for a preventative change.
I was under the impression the filter was changed as the oil from the pan is dropped first.

Found this guy and demo of the system.......seems crazy that only half is changed routinely.

Any decent Indy will do a full flush and filter change as standard , just by removing one of the cooler pipes . Personally I would go to one of our excellent range of Indy’s

Yes W1ghty, and that's how I did the last change on my 722.6 trans..technically ( and realistically) disconnect one of the two cooler pipes (my choice is the drivers side one) attach a drain pipe to it. Then fit a large funnel into the dipstick / refill pipe. Run engine with the drive in "P" and pump out 2 litres into the container, repeat until the new fluid appears. Job done, as far as all of the oil has been changed, But the sump will have to come down to change the filter and no way around that whatever method used., even when its machine chaned, better at the beginning of the job, IMHO.
OneForThe Road. If you look up MB Bevo list, you will see what ATF you will need for your trans,,,,,and they will also list all the MB approved trans fluid manufacturers, so you can take your pick. I've got 20 Ltrs of Fuchs Titan ATF 7134 FE for the next change in my 220 E class 722.9 trans,

My 9g will be getting done by a man who knows how its done , but thanks.

Be a while yet I'm only on 14k. :)
14K miles in 4 years on your car. 9g ATF service at 75K miles ? At that rate...17 years ? damn right it's going to be a while :D. Please get it done when lockdown ends, I don't think I can wait that long ;).

Actually , scrub that last comment. I think I might be tempting fate with the lockdown thing...might be 17 years , noooooo
