Thinking about a sideways business move from the on-HP Navara to a GL (age variable) on contract hire, have a lot of boxes that need ticking these days. Haven't driven one yet and it seems that on lease the age of the car doesnt matter a great deal so we're looking at different options and specifications.

Would love the forum's thoughts on them. i have had a few 4 x 4 s before so know it wont be quite like my w220 !

Thanks :)

Had one recently and quite liked it. Ride was very good on air suspension and it didn't wallow about like you'd think it could. Here is the obvious bit though, it is massive in every way.

The bits that are less good - fuel economy isn't brilliant, the interior feels cheap and way less special than a Rangie, the boot is shallow but very deep, the access into the rearmost seats can only be made through the offside door. No good on a busy road then.

BIG!!!!! and LONG!!! Has slightly more conservative look than the latest ML which has always had a slight "Thunderbirds are Go" vibe about it.

Get a Range Rover instead, it's just so much nicer.

To put it in context, a Viano (or Vito, which you see everywhere) is wider and taller than a GL.

Length-wise the GL is between the middle and longest versions of the Viano/Vito.

GL is seven seater Alan, hugely handy to us with 3 kids and parents getting older.

Bear in mind what I said about access to the rear seats though. Far from ideal and reminds me of the Mini Clubmans obvious flaw for use in this country.

Hmm, maybe an R class might be a better bet. Plenty of great offers around.

Is the Full Fat Range Rover a 7 seater? The Disco certainly is.

Not sure the R Class is up to the occasional hauling around of a mini digger...

It's the same chassis and platform as the GL and M.

I prefer the New Disco 3 litre diesel......but I accept that is heresy :ban:

I had a look at the new disco, but by the time I'd specced it up it was basically the same price as a RRS TDV6 - and I prefer the RRS and don't require 7 seats.

Disco is a good car and outstanding tow vehicle though.
