gl 320 cdi
OBD reads 24mpg. i can get 27mpg on long journey should i expect more??????

I wouldn't have thought so, your car weighs at least two and a half tons and has terrible drag efficiency.

I've got the same engine in my W211 E-Class and I average between 30-35mpg local and 45-50 mpg on a good run.

What temperature does it get up to on a run? Anything under 90C and it will be inefficient and drink more juice.

Sounds about right to me! I get 20-25, didn't buy it for fuel efficiency though.

Doesn't sound bad at all to me - depending on speeds, roads etc - it's probably quite good if that's in town...

Hello

My dad has the ML320CDi (same engine) he gets max 32mpg out of it.

I owuld think 25mpg out of a GL320cdi would be about right as its bigger / heavier.

I would think maybe a GL420 would be about the same to be honest.

I assume 25 on a run, it must be pretty low round town :) I Had a petrol ML350 that was similar... great though

The quoted "combined" mpg figure for any car is always la la land, rough as anything can knock 15/20% off that for real world "normal" driving, more if you have a heavy right foot

So with a quoted 29.3mpg combined, what you are getting does not seem unreasonable given you are in a heavy four wheel drive with aerodynamics approximating to that of a brick.

Sounds about right. We have a Vito with the same engine which is probably similar frontal area but a bit lighter ... that averages 24-25 mpg, and on a long run it will just reach 30 mpg. Motorway consumption depends a lot on how fast you go - these are big & draggy vehicles and the difference between even 70 mph and 80 mph will be significant. On a long run we tend to cruise at 120 kph (75 mph).
