Hi, just purchased a 2017 Mercedes GLC 250d x253 on 50k miles from the original owner. The car makes this ticking sound I’ve recorded when we turn the steering wheel to the left. I’m not sure if it does this when we turn right. I only caught it on camera by chance. The car also feels like it’s going over something in the road when we reverse on full or partial lock sometimes, and reading the forums it says it may be something called “crabbing”?! I’ve asked the original owner and he said he had work done on warranty to fix the “crabbing”, however, the problem seems to be very much still there. Does anyone have info on this ticking sound when turning the steering wheel, and the clunking/going over something feeling when reversing and turning? I’ve read forums saying it may be a steering knuckle issue and that Mercedes may cover as it’s a manufacturer fault. I have Mercedes extended warranty. Thank you for reading

You need winter tyres or all season to avoid the crabbing . I fitted XL tyres on my glc Big big mistake. I just don't go full lock now on colder mornings. I'll be looking to fit crossclimate tyres or learn to live with it.

Can't help with the ticking .

Could be that the hub needs greasing.
Easy fix. If you take the tire off, clean it up on the inside of the Alloy and the hob grease it, and then refix the tire back on.

Hi, I managed to upload a video. Will greasing the hub fix this?

Watch videos on you tube on glc wheel crabbing . Not sure what greasing the hub will do tbh, or where the idea came from. If it only happens on full lock it's definitely the tyres skipping on the tarmac because of the 4 matic system.

Ackerman effect.

I have a 2021 GLC fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport SUV tyres (not runflats) and have not had this issue at all.

I believe there was a mod for some earlier cars to the suspension but cannot say for sure,

I love these cars so good luck with yours.

Mb changed the steering knuckles around 2019/2020 . This changed the angle the front wheels lie at. £500 per side .

Are your tyres XL ???

I had an Audi which did this.
Turned out to be badly fitting brake pads, (Mintex), very loose, moving in the caliper.
It stopped when I touched the brakes, back when I took my foot off.
New pads cured it, just generic ones from ECP.
