Have a faulty glow plug. Replaced two. Other four siezed including the faulty one.

Have been told that there is a special tool for removing them without removing the head and have seen video of it on You Tube.

Does anybody know of a garage that has this tool in the North West of England

YouTube - CDI broken glowplug repair wo/thread repair kit

Many thanks

I don't have that tool, but have drilled the centers and threaded them, then taken them out with a slide hammer.

That tool is for the CDI engines, the earlier engines are nowhere near as tricky to get the glow plugs out of. To be honest I reckon if you have five working glow plugs that is more than enough to get the engine to start easily.

An old dodge for removing reluctant plugs was to try tightening them a little to break the corrosion. Metal expands with heat, did you try removal whilst the engine was hot?

Something I've wondered about with regards to removing stuck glow plugs is putting an old blanket folded up over the engine and firing it up. Would the cylinder pressure be enough to shoot the plug into the blanket?

Or am I heading for a headline in the local paper?

lol what the foook are u talking about ?

If the glow plug is stuck in the head I've wondered about using combustion pressure to fire it loose.

Remove the retaining nut, cover the area with something to catch the bulletlike projectile and start the engine. Hopefully the combustion pressure will fire the plug out into the restraining blanket.

Or not.

This is not a recommended procedure, do not try this at home, your mileage may vary, interest rates may go down as well as up etc. etc.

I'd love to help u try that out . Maybe do it in a big field, far far away from houses etc. On another note. My dad used to rebore old mbikes. He bored a bike then had to extend the kick start because it wouldn't kick. When that was done he kicked and the spark plug shot out through the fuel tank and passed his face by an inch. The longer kick pedal saved his face. Funny but not really.
