Picked up a A180CDI this morning ...

Got it plugged into a Star machine this afternoon, and have
(a) Enabled curve illumination (an option that only comes with Xenon, which I dont have) - so one fog light comes on as you turn to light the road on the side you are turning
(b) Enabled the "tyre pressure loss warning" (a cut down tyre pressure monitor - option costs £40 - all in software :-( - interestingly it had an option to enable the full system which shows the actual tyre pressures but that needs extra hardware so also got a message on the cluster saying it had a fault :-)
(c) Enabled "lamp replacement", so if you lose a light it substitutes with another (It gave some warning about check its legal in your country, but my SL does that so it must be)

PM me if you want some instructions for your dealer to do same for your new A or B class.

Also, its doing 40MPG !! Didn't know a car could do that :-)

Now to fit the CD changer - I'll write that install up for all to see once i've done it (probably next week)

We have had a B class 200CDI for about three weeks. Ißd say we were getting well over 40 mpg. Intend to write up impressions after we ahve had it for about a month.

I've seen the thing with one fog light coming on, and it looks dead weird from the outside!

It's actually illegal to have any front fog lights on if visibility is above 100 metres, is this function ever enabled by M-B on UK cars?

yes - I have it

I asked that about the surround (fog) lights - I don't see how they're legal either.

Apparently even factory-fit Xenons are illegal in the UK (at least, they're not legal because they're not specifically mentioned in the relevant bit of the law) but there's nothing the UK can do because they're EU Type Approved, and EU law over-rules ours.

People have been pulled by the Police for the lamps coming on, but it must have type approval so it will be legal.

I can see how a particular type of lamp can have EU type approval, and how that might be OK if not they're specifically mentioned in our laws. But our laws do specifically say it's an offence to have front (or rear) fog lights on unless visibility is under 100 metres. Plenty of things are legally different between the continent and here ... dip patterns of lights, speed limits, requirements for winter tyres, etc. Traffic laws of the 'local' country always apply.

Richard, do u mind if i ask where u got the car plugged into a star diag machine ? I'm in Berks too, and would love to get someone to activate the auto folding mirrors on my C...

Thanks :)

I am amazed you can just enable tyre pressure warning! That is great. I wonder if that would also be in the E Class system? On that car, the only tyre pressure system available from the factory is the full hardware-based system but, as an "economy" version is only based on ABS sensor inputs, there is no reason for it not to be available - the data is there, it jsut needs to be written into the OS.

Its only a £40 option on the A/B class (and £50 on C class/SLK)- interestingly the software seems set up for the full blown setup to be enabled (if the hardware was there) - so I guess they were/are considering that as an option at some point for the A/B class.

Interestingly, if you have run-flat tyres, then you really do need the run-flat indicator, or you may not notice ... so I wonder if MB are considering moving to run-flats ...

Thanks - I already know of someone in Kent that can do it - so that's the 2 bottom corners of the UK covered!!

I was hoping from your location that it might be someone in Berks.

I'm in the North West - but don't seem to able to locate anyone who can do this.
