V8 delivers an estimated 385 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque (378 horsepower and 324 lb-ft using regular fuel) to fit the demands of luxury consumers. 0- 60 miles per hour in less than 6.4 seconds.

The interior looks very much like a Maybach but with a £180,000 discount.

Not sure many people in the UK are yet ready to spend that sort of money on a Hyundai - first they'll need the use of Skoda's marketing department to change pubic opinion.

But if the pictures are anything to go by, it looks very nice indeed.

The leather on the rear seats look saggy. Not very good for marketing!

I think they've over done the wheel arch eyebrows, but otherwise a well balanced car IMHO. It's good to some one like Hyundai snapping at the heels of more established OEMs to keep them sharp.

^ and yet still be cheaper than a Mercedes to run (guessing of course)

^ you could throw it away after a year and probably still lose less than a maybach in a year.

I think this will be designed for the american market. Competing on quality isn't that difficult compared to domestic product.

I'd be very surprised to see this on sale anywhere in Europe in the next few years. But given time..

Cheers,

Gaz

" I live in Korea and have had the chance to ride in an Equus and I see them all the time. they are smooth riding cars with lots of extras. but, you must remember like the "s" class, you get the basic model and then the one with all the goodies will cost you! here they come standard with a 3.8L V6 but you can get a 6 l model. the ride was smooth just like the mercedes, but of course when you try to compare this to the 2010 S600, the engine is no match as well as all the "gadgets". realiability for these cars here, is a lot better than the W220/221. and again, cost to repair is 1/3 the price. Koreans here still get the "s" class as a status symbol, not the Equus. Simply put, if I had the money, there is no doubt or second thought, it would be a S600 or S65 everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. The Equus has alot to go to even match the Mercedes. just my opinion.."

Imports of this Hyundai Genesis have become popular in Russia as a cheap alternative to E class and 5 Series.

Actually not a bad looking car and very nice inside, if a bit 7 series like. :)

Sean...trust you to read the small print!

This isn't designed for anywhere else other than China.

The Chinese don't have the same brand perception (badge snobbery) like we do, the yanks do and arguably the Russian's do.

The Chinese will lap this up, whether its built there or in Korea will be the difference between them making money or a ton of money on it.

and arguably the Russian's do.
Only to a point. No where near as bad as us! Hyundai are popular and well respected there, as are KIA, Chevy-Deawoo, Toyota, Nissan etc. Only at the upper echelons of society do MB, BMW et al rule! :)

Lower spec car $58,000 [ £37,000] higher spec $64,000 [£40,500] both V8s

There's the official list price and the discounted price of course also!

Pity about the front grill!

Doesn't look too bad but it's a lot of money in my opinion, for something that will be worth hardly anything in a few years time.
Surely a used Mercedes makes more sense.
