Car
2011 Viano 2.2 CDi Ambiente
I went to my local post office this morning, parked on the main road about 50 yards away, no lines, no parking restrictions, 40 Mph limit but I was about 10 yards from a minor junction and 20 yards from a light controlled crossing.

4 minutes later I came back to find the side of my Viano stoved in. no one to own up, no witnesses, no one that heard or saw anything. It was obviously a commercial vehicle of some kind as it's way too high up to be a car and I suppose I'm lucky there is no broken glass. But the door wont open.

It's a working vehicle so I needed to sort something out quickly. My policy alledgedly allows me a like for like replacement but guess what, they don't do Vianos and can only let me have a Chrysler Grand Voyager but not until Thursday. After much arguing, and I really had to fight for something, they are bringing me an S class LWB this afternoon but it's a 220 not a 221 and only until Thursday. My first insurance claim in about 17 years so I dont know what to expect.

This is what I came back to.

:(
That looks like a very high bumper doesn't it? Sorry to see pics of the poor bus with dents in it, hope the insurance gets sorted out ASAP.

Sorry to hear about that.

Any chance of CCTV in the area?

Ray - so sorry I missed your call earlier - and my text is now stupid as obviously everything is not OK. I'm gutted for you chuck. That really is awful. Hardly weeny ding is it? I onoy hope there is a devine retribution for that.

I'm home now so do give me a call if you want to natter.

Sorry to hear the news Ray

Might it be worthwhile having a tout along the shops there (I think I know where you mean - used that PO myself) to see if they have CCTV?

I did go back to the PO but their CCTV only covers the front and side of the shop. Cant see my car or anything else for that matter unless it's parked directly outside. The chinese and Indian take aways dont have CCTV

It's a shame to see that Ray, and of course it would be that side.:(

What a pig! Sorry to hear this, and makes you feel even worse as noone has left a note or no one witnessed it, what a loada hassle and stress no doubt.

Good Luck in a speedy repair! :)

That is really poor. There's some real low life around:mad: .

You haven't mentioned it so I will.. Don't forget to report it to the police just in case the perpetrators get co(ky and come back to claim you were to blame for the incident at some fictitious junction:mad:.

All the best for a painless experience with the insurance.

whatever and whoever did it, knew they had done it thats for sure.

I would look for something with a tail lift if I was you. That looks very like the rubber bits that are on the side of them.

Check out the back of a dustbin lorry/skip wagon type thing. Could be a bus too, but would have to be a particular part of a bus.

If the CCTV people you have seen, does it show what goes past on the road and will they allow you a look at it. You may see the offending vehicle passing by.

Anyway, wasn't me. I was on the ferry to Mull, and have loads of witnesses....so I am safe.

Hope its doesn't affect business, but would it be an idea to ring a few of your known regulars and just mention it?

bad news, I reported our bin man for something similar a few years back, to be fair to him he probably didnt know it was him as it was miles away from his cab, it was the rear end of the thing as that looks a little high to be a bumper, (unless its an 8X8 off road truck or similar,) so I was wondering if it was the back end of something, is the bin men truck park/dump anywhere near you can go and have a nose, I would say it was something black so your silver paint should show up, unless they cleaned it.... I suppose you could just look for a clean bin lorry!!!

Ray,

So sorry about this... its a pain when things like this affect your work.

however i think the driver of that lorry may not even have known.

Some of these massive skip lorries for example, are so noisy you wouldnt know if you had ran over a tank never mind scraped the side of a car.

A few months back i saw a large bin lorry swipe the side of a parked frontera... and I mean completely write it off... He didnt stop... but I made him at some traffic lights further down the road... when i told him what he had done, he genuinly had no idea and went back to leave a note.

Can't add much to the thread except to say I really feel for you. I know how gutted I would feel if I came back to that on my car and I don't rely on it for business.

Very sorry to hear that Ray, it's appalling :(.

I agree with Scumbag that it's the kind of damage that the other driver would be aware of, so even if the chance is small, I still hope some witness will come forward and that they will catch the lowlife that did it.

Another example of people not willing to take responsibility for their actions .

If they knew, which it may be quite possible they didn't.
