Gutted !!!

If they knew, which it may be quite possible they didn't.

I'll grant you that, but I find that really hard to believe looking at the pics, even if it was a heavy truck.

It is possible that there were no witnesses - but again I find that hard to believe. I've seen it happen where an incident like this takes place on a busy London street and no one else bothers to come forward as a witness.

looking at the pics, and the fact Ray had not been stopped long, I would suggest that if the driver that hit this did not know....they should not be driving again. The angle of the marks suggest that the vehicle that did this was not moving particularly fast. Thats why I think you may be able to work out what kind of vehicle it was.

Could be a tesco truck with tail lift. I am sticking to the taillift theory but it maybe something else.

It was moving at a reasonble speed I just don't see how it would generate that damage.

Not helpful to Ray but it will give him some ideas as to where to look.

I do hope the insurance doesn't cause any problems tho.

Really sorry to hear that. Hope you are alright. I would be really gutted given that its a working vehicle. I would also check the CCTV to see what went by round about the time you were in the shop, and yes defo report to the police.

Ouch!! I hope it gets sorted both quickly and painlessly.

As you know Ray, having spoken earlier today, I feel for you. But look on the bright side. You could possibly get a proper colour sprayed on there :D when they fix it. I would suspect a new door skin will be needed as the crease at the top looks a tad iffy. Make sure the body shop you use will guarantee the work to your standards and don't accept anything less than perfection.

2008 is a bit rubbish isn't it? Roll on 2009. Sorry to hear, such bad luck, wrong time, wrong place!

I'm so sorry to see this.

What can I say :o :o :o :o

Take care

Yours sincerely
John

Sorry to hear this Ray, it's hardly your normal parking ding. Barstewards!

Hopefully the insurance company will be half sensible about it by way of a replacement in the meantime.

Sorry to hear about this, kikkthecat :(

My brother had a similar "hit and run" incident when his drove a W124. He was left with £1,000 of damage to the rear end.

I hope you get this sorted soon, and hopefully without a big bill!

Darren

ive not read all 3 pages but has anyone mentioned that it looks like it was from a vehicle turning whilst moving slowly as its been done in 2 parts, looks to me like the vehicle hit it then stoped and moved away and carried on as i did this many moons ago with my car and it looked like id hit 2 things but what id done was cath the sid eof the car on a caravan hitch, stopped then turned and caught it again

as for cctv that might help you see who migth have done it but no real help unless caught in the act

buggerd really

the days of a note on the windscreen are long gone

Just seen this too Ray...all I can say is I hope this gets sorted as quickly and painlessly as possible and to your satisfaction.

Let us all know how things develop,

matt

Hope it gets sorted soon, let us know what you think of the S-Class.

Alan

so, whats happening? where are we at etc?

Just an update on what's happenning.
Repairs were authorised on the 18th and parts ordered so the text message said. I then heard nothing until yesterday when I chased them up. Apparently they were waiting for the panels to arrive and they now have, latest update at 12:30 today is it's in the paintshop.

On the 16th they brought me an S class LWB (W220) 320CDi and I was delighted with it. Took a client to a Golf/Country club in Surrey and it was perfect. Not as quiet as a Lexus 600h and not as many toys but no electric motor either.

On the 18th things took a serious turn for the worse, thay came and took the S class away and left a Chrysler Grand Voyager in it's place. 57 reg and only 2040 miles, still smelt like a new car and for nearly 3 minutes I was quite excited. It may be that I'm used to driving Mercedes for the last 10 years or so but this is quite frankly the worst car I have ever had the misfortune to drive. The pedals are offset so far to the left the only place to put your left foot is under the brake pedal. The wheel arch is where the throttle should be, throttle where the brake should be and brake where your left foot should be. I almost have to sit sideways to drive it. The interior trim is made from a form of plastic that is usually reserved for toys made in China. No controls are anywhere you expect them to be, it's an automatic and the gear lever is column mounted on the right hand side. The drivers seat doesn't have adequate adjustment and is permanantly uncomfortable, the electric controls for it are down the side of the seat and impossible to reach while sat in it with the door closed. It has electric rear doors which should be impressive but I didn't know electric motors could make such a wierd noise. It reminds me of the castle door in a Hammer horror film every time it opens and closes. Oh and the cup holders are on the floor out of reach as well. It's hard to believe that this pile of pooh is built by the same company that make Mercedes Benz vehicles.
This is of course only my opinion and if you have a Voyager that you're happy with then good luck to you but I'd rather have something built on Scrapheap Challenge than one of these.
I'm not a performance kind of person and 0 - 60 times and top speeds mean nothing to me but it keeps up with traffic, cruises at 70 in reasonable quietness and comfort so in that respect it's ok. And the passengers seem to like the space but I dont like the look of the rearmost bench seat and wouldn't want to try squeeze 3 adults on there.

On a much brighter note I should have the Viano back by the end of the week and my only concern is that I might not inspect it as closely as I should in my haste to hand the Voyager back.

Only just seen this thread Ray.

Sorry about your problems, hope you get you vehicle back OK, but inspect it at the repairers to ensure you report anything you are unhappy about, and get agreement on any rectification there and then . It's difficult to argue afterwards.

I've just seen this too -- good luck and as Brian says don't accept any substandard work..

Had a ride in a voyager to an airport once -- as a passenger in the middle row of captain seats it was fine...but that's not the same as driving the thing..

Is the facelifted Voyager any better safety-wise? I remember the previous version getting a really dire NCAP rating in RHD form.

No match for a nice 639 chassis M-B, anyway :)
