The story about Nelly does seem rather far-fetched, but if it's not true then I wonder what the car's true history is.

There is nothing wrong with marketing a product for sale, but aiming for winning the man booker prize is over egging it slightly on ebay.
 
If it has done less than 18,000 miles how did the underbonnet lining get ripped out leaving part of it behind.It does not seem quite right to me.Also I would bet that Nellie wore a base ball hat.

Would there not be a paper trail to confirm the mileage?

I suppose there is an honest car sales person out there somewhere, but are they not usually compared to estate agents?
