Having got home with the CLS, I had a loon for the handbook and service book.

Unfortunately, I could find neither in the car. The garage is not being particularly helpful, at present.

Could someone please confirm, or deny, whether the car (2012 CLS 350CDI) should definitely have a printed handbook and service book?

Thanks.

No service book after 2008, it's Digital Service Book (DSB) only. Your local MB dealer should be able to provide a printout of the service history if you present them with the V5C and photo ID.

As for a printed manual, my 2013 C180 had one, so I would assume that a 2012 CLS will also have one. They come-up for sale on eBay from time to time, and you should be able to download a PDF as well.

I bought my E350 new in 2012, still have it, and this was supplied with a several-hundred page owner's handbook, a service booklet and numerous other 'info cards', all in a folder.20230424_121638.jpg20230424_121654.jpg20230424_121711.jpg

The service booklet lists the various engines etc. and what is included in each A / B service etc., as well as the additional items required every 2 , 3, 4, 5, 15-years etc.. It does not, however, have any places for sevice-stamps as, has already been pointed out, they were digital service records by then.

If your car has Comand there will also be an onboard additional 'handbook' in the hard-drive. I can't comment whether non-Comand cars had the hard-drive handbook, though a later car of mine does have some info. stored on the car's system.

If you have Harmon Kardon, they also came with a demo CD.

As the CLS is listed in my Service Booklet I presume the same handbooks were supplied originally.

Cheers, chaps. Just been over to my local dealer, at Chi, and was able to order a printed manual.
As you've said, service record is all digital, so they gave me a printout of the record, which was interesting. The car has had 9 main dealer services in less than 33000 miles!
Annoyingly, I forgot to ask them about map updates, so I guess I'll have to go to navi expert and get something from them.

Found what appears to be a complete owner's manual set on eBay, including the digital handbook disc, Linguatronic manual, Comand manual etc..., so ordered it.

Good result; I'd forgotten about the Comand handbook etc. as I don't keep those in the car. The HK demo disc looks like this if you find one advertised:

The wallet with the instruction books are so thick and take up so much room in the glovebox so I keep it in the compartment under the boot floor,I'd (rather have a spare wheel there!).
On the rare occasions I have consulted it it tells me there are more details on the Command screen which is true. If you need info about Command you have to memorise the info before using the Command wheel to access the system, mad.
