Hello Everyone!

Been lurking behind here for the past while learning loads and you've got a lovely site - so well done to all involved.

I've just bought a 1987 Mercedes 250 Manual with 100,000 miles, although it hasn't ran for nine years should be fun getting it back on the road but I'm able to work on cars. I'm not new to classic ownership as I also have a '70 Volkswagen Beetle & '71 Volkswagen Early Bay Microbus.

Cheers,

Mikey.

Thanks everybody for your welcomes.

The car itself is a 1987 250 2.5 diesel manual, I'm not sure how commen they were in manual?

Well I hope so, but I hope it will run. It hasn't been running for the past nine years although its low miles and drove into the driveway. I've a feeling it will, is their any guides I should follow recommissing this or open a new thread?

Can't help really other than to say flush the fuel system, new filter and new battery for starters. Maybe light a fire under the sump too! (Joke).

Just make sure it's worth putting back on the road in the first place, they don't like sitting around especially after nine years in the open.

Thanks John Jones Jr, I agree fuel will be flushed and I was actually planning to change the fuel lines and clips, I ordered the fuel filters off Mercedes (one after the tank? and one in the engine bay). I'm planning on turning the engine by hand, fresh fuel and with a new charge hopefully it will start up. Then I'll change the oil and air, oil filters.

Have I covered everything I should regarding getting this going?

Hi Mikey
Let us know if it runs ok, whats the engine like ?

Thanks very much Bazzer1.

I don't know as it drove into the driveway and was in very good condition when it went in orginally. I bought this car without even driving it and
the owner have lost the keys, so I haven't even got to lift the bonnet, will have to wait until Mercedes make me a replacement key.

I know it is something you really shouldn't do when buying a car but I got the car for a very good price so it's worth the bet.

Where does the 250D engine stand? is it a better one than the 300D or worse, presume it might be uncommen in manual? but not rare.

Hi Mikey,

Just come back from Dublin (Clontarf).

Nice engine size and with the manual should be economical too.:thumb:

Bulletproof Mercedes engineering should make it a goer!

Probably a bit late for the T-Cut though. ;)

Good luck with her and it's great you're resurrecting an old W124.

Keep us updated.

Regards

greeno.
