Hi from a fellow W166 250cdi Sport Bluetec owner (Based in Leicester).

This is a great site for anything Merc but bare in mind our vehicles are relatively new and some questions are very difficult to answer without any experience or history. I'm still struggling with tow bar technology!

Absolutely love mine. Ignore the reports from those worried about 4 cylinder diesels in an ML. Mine is a JUNE '12 model and has the "old" instrument cluster with the black and white message area. Newer ones are colour and nicer.

I drove one for a couple of hours, and thought it was impressive for a 4 pot, huge amounts of torque, and not as noisy as the journalists seemed to think.

Totally agree with your comments on the engine. It's also alot quieter than the current E and C class 4 pots.

If you can amend your build, I would spec in the tow bar as MB want a kings ransome to retro fit.

If not, follow Merc Owner 2B tow bar post.

Agree its a kings ransome, but i really dont need it, and i hope its built by now anyway.

Also am very interested to know what real world mpg figures you guys are getting.

Around town achieves 30 mpg and on a run (steady 70) I've had 39 mpg. I'm not the most frugal of drivers so I expect others to get slightly more.

31mpg around town and 39mpg on a run is bang on what i usually get and its no slouch either, 4 pots and all.

Picking up on an old thread, but I was surprised to see 33mpg on a cross-country run recently and I wasn't trying to take it easy. That's from a 350.
