Hello to everyone
I have an 05 vito part camper.
Iā€™m looking for some advice on 2 problems Iā€™m having, first one is the pixels on the instrument cluster have gone. Can I get a 2nd hand cluster and just swap it over? Or do I need to get some coding done?
My 2nd problem is inside the interior light unit in the cabthere is a loose wire, when I reconnected the wire it was quite apparent why it was disconnected. The indicators keep flashing after I lock the van.
Well hereā€™s hoping someone on here can help.
Thanks in advance
Dave

A second cluster of the same type, will work but the odometer will just show dashes until coded to match the ECU mileage.

I'm guessing the van has an alarm, and that has issue.
With the wire connected will the flashing indicators extinguish if locked a second time?
If that's the case there is a v good chance it is the rechargeable cell in the alarm sounder that's shot.
Try that and come back and I/ we can give more tips on that.

Hello
Thanks for the quick reply, is it an expensive job to get the dash coded to the ecu?
I will try the locking a second time at weekend as my partner is using the van to get to work at the minute and I donā€™t want to try anything until weekend in case I make it worse šŸ˜³šŸ˜³. Where is the rechargeable cell alarm sounder located? Excuse my ignorance, but auto electrics are a mystery to mešŸ˜šŸ˜.
Thanks again
Dave

Cost, don't know as I've not had to have it done. Maybe others can shed more light.

Assuming the sounder is the same as later versions it would be in front of the o/s front wheel liner, on the cross member.
If the same it can be opened up and the cell replaced for around Ā£25. But if the cell has leaked onto the circuit board it may well have destroyed it. New one's from MB would be around Ā£125.

Hello again
Iā€™ll check and let you know if thatā€™s the problem.
Thanks for your help and advice.
Dave

There are specialist companies who will repair your existing cluster while you wait (obviously you need to book this!). I used these guys, who also did various jobs for Wheeler Dealers:

I had a more serious problem with the whole cluster 're-booting' while driving ... in the event they weren't able to solve this (even after replacing the main processor) but they immediately gave me a full refund and spent some time trying to source a used replacement, so I would still recommend them. But there are probably others.

Hi
Thanks, they are closed for summer holidays at the minute, Iā€™ll give them a call when open.
Thank you
Dave

Just as an aside, I never found a used cluster for mine (it has the chrome-ringed type with a proper fuel gauge etc.) and ended up having to get a new one from Mercedes. This came to Ā£661 all-in (incl. labour & VAT), which was a lot but not as bad as I expected at a main dealer. The other thing is that the new cluster gave me remaining range on the trip mileage screen, which is really useful and the original one didn't have it!

Display pixel repairs are very straightforward though, so I'm sure you'll be able to get yours fixed. Good luck!
