Puzzle. V5 says manual but car is auto??

I bought a ML and when I ran the usual checks I discovered that the car is registered as manual on the V5 but the car is definitely an automatic. Has anyone had any experience of this or any advice? I tried searching on the web but didn't find anything.

Being in the Trade, you will be surprised at how many cars are wrongly specified on their V5c's.

I would suggest putting a call into DVLA and asking their advice on how to get this anomaly rectified.

Does everything else tie up? Colour/VIN/engine numbers etc? If so, I would have thought a notification to DVLA is in order - there are details on their website about doing this (Google "change vehicle details on a V5C"). Even though this isn't a "change" as such, or in their list of things that require notification, there seems to be an overriding obligation to notify them of any mistakes.

Thank you. I am picking the car up today and will check vin and engine no. I was concerned that it might have been scrapped and rebuild although theres no mention of it on the check I ran. I didn't realise that cars could be wrongly spec'd on the V5c. Live and learn. I've made so many mistakes with cars and I'm just trying to draw a line!

I was looking to buy an ml prior to finding the one I have now back in October. It had an anomaly on the v5 in that it was down as a c class with 5 seats , not an m class with 7, but everything else was correct. Even when I was pricing the insurance, my insurance company found the reg to be a C class (due to their system cross referencing the v5 dvla data).
I phoned mercedes customer services to query it with the chassis number etc and they were fantastic. They even pulled up the factory build data and told me all the options it was fitted with ? So I could tell if it had after fit parking sensors and wheels etc).
They also had a service where they could issue the data in a form that you could send to the DVLA to get it rectified of the v5. After that Iwas happy the vehicle was genuine,
Unfortunately that purchase fell through on me the seller pulled out, and I subsequently found my present ML instead.
Try Merc customer services, find it on line, I was most surprised how keen to help they were even for an 11 year old car.
Hope this helps.
