CLK 230K W208 Coupe (1999)(Auto)
Would like to know who is the best to go to, other than price comparisons (as i will/have do all of them).

It's a CLK 230k 1999
I'll be 26
I've 1 yrs NCB
I had one non-fault accident in July 2009
I had my car stolen in December 2005.

It will be parked on the road, in London.

My renewal quote was £1k !! With Admiral, which is way too high! Any recommendations greatly receievd.

try Adrian Flux - only a the cost of a call to lose

Try More Than, I found them to be much cheaper than the rest.

I just got a quote from Mercedes Insurance, tel- 0845 605 6507, for my new CLC, they beat everyone else by quite a lot. They are underwritten by Aviva and even beat them when I went direct.

You will just have to shop around as many places as you can - insurance quotes are never the same for any two drivers as there are so many variables , besides someone else may get a low quote from company A and you may do better with company B.

I'd have thought , given the car , your age , claims history , on street parking and your location that £1K wasn't too bad ?

Some companies will give discounts for security devices/trackers fitted , advanced driving qualifications , membership of owners clubs ( The Mercedes-Benz Club have a panel of insurers who give discounts to members ) , and probably if your grandfather was in the masons or went to school with the company chairman .

For what it is worth , I got a competitive quote from the RAC and roadside assistance as part of the deal , AA do similar deals .

as above; £1k given what you quoted would seem ok, so if you shop around dont expect too much less

Can you not reduce it by declaring a mileage limit, adding your partner and so on?

Having said that, £1k for a driver with 1 years NCB isn't bad

I have a CLK320, am a similar age and car registered as parked in London (where I am most of the time). I'm with Elephant and it was under £600, miles cheaper than any other quote I got.

I do have 9 years NCB though - this is a factor. For this year also I added my mum as a named driver which shaved a fair bit off the price.

thanks all

£900 from Elephant.

£4,000 from Endsleigh!

Via TopCashBack.co.uk i got £70 off a quite with Aviva, bringing my total cost of fully comp insurance with wife on and both with 3 points for just £190 for the year.

Get a quote from the Co op.I am with them. I have just renewed. I paid £182. Thats fully comp, I live in central London and its parked on the street.

I do have a clean licence and I`m .........erm, mature !

I'm a couple of years older and similar history to you (6 points too), I was £800 with Admiral in my Merc (Group 18). My experience is the points make literally no difference, it is crashes that count when dealing with <30s in a fairly high power car.

As the guy at Aviva told me years ago when I informed them of more points, "Is your license still valid?", "Yes", "You're doing fine, if you renew now we'll give you £75 off".

At a guess £750-1000 is probably about what you will pay.

Edit: I should mention that when I talk about points I mean the standard SP30/SP50 ones, some of the more "Exotic" ones might concern your insurer.

Thing is, almost all insurance policies are quite expensive, but it's the NCD that brings the premium down to an acceptable level. Hence with just one year's NCD you're unfortunately going to get some pretty high quotes. With say 5 year's NCD, the same insurance policy that you've been quoted ~ £1k for would probably be about £500.
