Hi there,

Picked up my new (used) E350d 2017 (W213) last week. All well until today, drove home from work and stopped to pick something up and noticed a smell from the car, a little like a clutch smell (its auto but...), got back in and continued to drive home.

During the rest of the drive, I noticed it was running high revs, while normally it would change right up through the gears and even use the 'gliding mode' but it was sticking in 5th with high revs... Thought it was strange...

When I got home and stopped the car, I noticed a loud 'ticking' type of noise coming from underneath, It was hard to say, but I'd say mid-front, more passenger side. It was like a 'hot' ticking type sound, very difficult to describe. Again, there was a slight 'clutch' smell, nut not as bad as when I stopped off to pick something up mid-drive.

Have a reasonably long drive at the weekend and am concerned there might be something wrong. There are no messages at all.

Any ideas given the above symptoms?

Thanks in advance.

Tended only to do long 50 miles plus runs in my diesel so very rarely noticed DPF regeneration

It would be good if it could tell you it was doing it!
