C220 coupe 2012
Could anybody advise, the chrome trim around the windows on my C220 have got what looks like water marks on them. What is the best thing to get them looking good.
Thanks.

T Cut should bring them back to looking new again.
Mine are alloy so I've buffed mine with a fine grade wire wool, a very fine grade wool would also do the job just be careful not to rub the paint work though

You may find that your window trims are not chrome but infact anodised aluminium. The milky effect is what happens when chrome cleaners are used on them. I know our Audi Manual had a piece in there to the effect of:

"The metal brightwork on the body is made from aluminium rather than chrome (for environmental reasons). Dirt or marks on the trim should be removed with an acid-free cleaning agent (do not use a chrome cleaner). Body polish is also unsuitable for use on trim mouldings. The intensive cleaning fluids often used before the car goes into a car wash may contain alkaline substances, which can cause dull or milky patches when they dry out."

That makes seance thank you...

If you're using anything abrasive, (T-cut, Autoglym, chrome cleaner etc) it's a good idea to use masking tape around the brightwork because you can easily rub through the paint, which is less than desirable...

If the brightwork is anodised aluminium, once it starts going milky, it's the begimming of the end.. You should be able to get it shiny again with abrasive cleaners, but you'll never again be able to leave it out in the rain for say 5 years without re-polishing.

The anodised sill finishers on my Allroad went that way so I just sprayed them with bright silver paint. Looked almost exactly the same as new.

Without a doubt, the best metal polish/sealant around comes from a Dutch company who sell it under the Great Lion brand. It is available in 2 grades, Extreme or Ultra depending on how much effort you are prepared to put in. Each type is around £20 or you can get both as a kit here:

Great Lion Metal Polish on eBay

They should adopt the Mercedes motto - "The best or nothing."

Barkeepers friend works for me. Alternatively white vingegar

Thanks for all your help, T cut did nothing after & hour of prep & carefully polishing no different. Anyway of to Spain tonight 3000 miles, lots of sunshine and the best wine in the world ( and Best of 3 week off work )

An hour is quite enough rubbing thank you.

Probably take the hint and spray them bright silver. If you're careful with the masking tape, it's possible to get an excellent finish just using aerosols.

Remember to clear-coat the silver to keep it looking bright for longer.

Thread resurrection.....

My E class Coupe has the same blotches as I expect the OP had (see attached)

Rubbing with a cloth hasn't made a dent
I haven't tried any cleaning products directly yet and the thread above didn't come to a conclusion

Best home remedy or product advice appreciated

To me, that looks like something has got under some sort of clear coat. Just a thought, but have you tried a little heat from a hair dryer, if they go, it confirms the clear coat is letting in moisture.
Only resolve is to cut it back and re finish.

how about white vinegar, if its water stains, just soak a small piece of cloth and wipe up and down for a few minutes the rinse well and polish

Autoglym Super Resin Polish + a microfibre cloth

Okay, will try what polish I have to start with (once it stops raining)

I have autosol, but is this metal?
