Drove my car up the drive a few weeks ago then went back in house for about a hour and half , came back to car and it wouldnt start ,,
When I mean wouldn’t start , pressed button for start and no starter noise ,,, so took out button tried key , same response ,,, have charged the aux battery and starter motor battery to !!!
All things in car work and all dash lights illuminate etc
Any one got any ideas ? Thank Jon

Transmission in P and footbrake pedal pressed?
Yes ,,, and if I do put it into gear the dash tell me to put in p or n so guessing the inhibitor switch / sensor is working okay
Guess I should have added that to the original post !! Had thought maybe brake switch , but brake lights are also working 🤔

Brake light switch 🤔 Do I remember hearing that it has 2 sets of contacts , one for the brake lights and one for the transmission signal , ? meaning that brake lights coming on are no indication of the second set of contacts being OK .

Or did I dream that .

I have odd dreams sometimes.

Sounds like my 2009 CL500. The starter motor failed at 114,700 miles. It was working then it wasn't. First thing to check is the relay. However mine turned out to be the starter motor itself, the brushes had disintegrated. I fitted a second hand replacement cost £20 I think. Easiest job I have done on the CL500, much easier than replacing the alternator or fixing the sunroof blocked drain. Only 2 bolts to undo! (after undoing the 16 odd to get the undertray off). Now the car starts fast - it was sluggish since I bought it at 107K miles a year earlier. I had assumed that was because the battery might be on the way out but the battery was fine. Seller told me it was because it was turning a big V8 and I fell for that.
