Hi there, my name is Russ and I am the proud owner of a petrol E class estate, 2001.
I have owned since April with no real issues, it does have a long list of things that need to be done but I am waiting for the MOT in December to address these.

The current issue has only just reared its ugly head. From stand still, when you put your foot on the accelerator nothing happens, then after a few seconds it starts to build up and eventually the car moves off. Defo not turbo lag! ha. Any ideas?

Cheers, Russ.

You could try resetting the TCU (throttle control unit) it "might" help. With my car, you can do this by pressing, and holding, the throttle pedal all the way down, then turn key to position 2, and hold the throttle down for approx 10 seconds, the release and switch off ignition. As I said, it might help.

When was it last serviced, Plugs, air filter etc. Could be fuel related or many other things including gearbox?
Most will recommend a diagnostic session to see if any codes are there, that is the link.

If you dont want to spend lots of cash get a basic code reader and check codes yourself?

But what engine is it? that helps.

Hi Joesoap17, it has a petrol 2.6 V6. Currently at 100k miles and last service was recorded at 80k but I think that was a minor.
The history is good but I can't see any reports of a gearbox service - are these sealed units? Part of me does think it would benefit from a gearbox service.

Usually for the 722.6 5 speed it takes 5-6 litres for a quick change or around 13litres when flushed with machine?
easy enough to do if you have access to a lift or have ramps.

Thanks for all the info. I have found a gearbox service kit on ebay - so no special tools needed? Just jack it up and remove sump etc
