Hi, I'm Richard.
The proud owner of a Red W639 (Brabus edition) for the last 10 years. I absolutely love it, and have sworn to never sell it, and up until now it has been trouble free motoring but have recently hit a repeat problem with the Gear shift module. (GES,ESM or whatever) Part number 639 545 05 32 and am looking for a bit of help or support with repair as they are now unavailable. I have located 2 places that offer repairs. 1 in Australia and another in Germany (neither ideal) and one in the UK that might be able to help. Happy to share what I know or open for other options.
Thanks.

Greetings Richard and welcome to the group from me - Alas i have absolutely no knowledge with MB vans, but many others here do! I am sure that someone will chime in and help you with your query

Hi Richard, I'm also new on here & have a 2008 W639, but have the manual gearbox.

Do you still have issues with this?

Have you had anyone check the sensor operation? I see it's a part that's no longer available & probably has a glitch on the circuitry, but used to work on Renaults which had similar issues on their selectors back in the day. Looking at the part number you listed on a google search, it appears to have 2 circuit boards linked with a ribbon cable. Have you checked the area where the circuity measures the gear lever position for wear or damage? Obvious question & I don't know the auto version's setup or the exact issues you are experiencing, but sometimes if the lever has play in it (ie on older vehicles with lots of use), then the pickup on the gear sensor may not be close enough to register the selected gear.

All the best
Mark
