Is there a way i can trace the history of a merc that i bought with no history.
Its done 126k but the last owner had it 6 years . its on a p plate and i cant belive that the spec of the car it doesnt have a decent history at dealer. top of the range you would expect to see at least 5 years of dealer history. what do you think?

Some very top end cars are owned by people who have so much disposable cash that they don't give a tinkers cuss about the car let alone getting it serviced - so you can find very expensive cars without proper service histories.

I think if you take it to a MB dealer, their system will show details of visits within the MB network.

No history rings alarm bells, especially with a high end brand such as MB. Lets hope your 126,000 miler wasn't in for a clutch 4 years ago at 195,000 miles... I have heard of this happening unfortunately.

A visit to a MB dealer should give you lots of info if the car has been main dealer serviced.

Bets of luck. :thumb:

Not wishing to hijack this thread, but as an interesting and relevant aside...

Apparently all new mercs now come without a 'service book'.

I found this out on Saturday whilst chasing the missing one and the missing COMAND manual, and the parktronic retrofit (but that's another story:wallbash:) for my partners SLK.

Anyway, MB told me that the history was kept on the system, and that the book was now no longer needed, and they would provide a printout of the history on request. This seemed strange, and to me at least, pretty poor. What about servicing at independents - all you can now keep is a wadge of receipts and try to fill in any gaps in the dealer printout. Seems that this will give huge options for dodgy service historys.

That sounds more like an "I can't be ****d to sort this out" to me.
