Hi again, (e250 estate 2010 wdd2122032...)
I should have known better. When i bought the car the drivers door had a 3" amg badge a bit too strategically placed but worn and faded, so i removed it tonight to reveal a thumb print sized hole in the paint. In a few months I will be getting some body work done but for now I want to put the badge back on.
Is there any prep needed to prevent corrosion or will i just get some double sided number plate tape and stick it back on?
I had intended removing the thin plastic chrome strips from the lower half of the doors but who knows what that will reveal? Has anyone removed the front wing blue efficiency badges?
Any wisdom welcome.
Thankles,
D.

If you’ll be sticking the badge back on until you get the panel resprayed then perhaps you could just fill in the area where the paint has flaked away with a paint touch-up pen. Is there a similarly position badge on the other side of the car?

Strange that it’s flake away there if there’s no sign of damage. Had there been a poor respiratory in the past, sufficient for paint to flake away, then you might expect the badge to pull away more paint when you removed it - was there any sign of paint on the badge or adhesive?

Hi and thank you for the reply.
I imagine the paint had been damaged and home repair job looked worse than a badge. The paint came off with the badge. It is only on one side btw. For the moment I t-cut and then waxed the area then strategically placed a piece of insulation tape to protect. Is that the right procedure? Or should i clean the area with some alcohol, dry the area and then place the insulation tape?
It is very difficult to photograph black paint in any light.
Does it look like bare metal or through to primer?
I want an easy fix without making it worse and to cover it up while avoiding further corrosion.
Thanks,
D

A bit difficult to see from your pics, but I suspect that judging from the amount 'orange peel' in the rest of the paintwork on that door, it's been resprayed at some point
(unless MB turn out orange peel effect paint as a standard factory fit item!)
The place where the paint has come off looks a bit strange - are W212 doors aluminium?

A small repair was done it seems and the haze above the wound looks like clear laquer that didn't dry smoothly, hence orange peely. Yes i think aluminium doors. Thanks for replying, D
