I've had a look around but can't seem to find the answer.

On my ML (W164) dash display it shows the speed in kmh and I'm looking to change it to mph. There is a setting to go from kmh to mph on the steering wheel menu but it doesn't change the display. Any suggestions to enable the mph on the display?

Are you talking about the small screen in the middle of the speedometer ? If so that is normally changeable between mph and kph via the steering wheel buttons.

If you are talking about the speedo itself, that is permanent. I have a CLK which has permanent MPH around the speedo plus KPH in the central speedo lecd screen.

Only STAR can change from kph to mph.

On some models the ability to change the display to mph is coded out for UK models. This is because of how MB interpreted the requirement for speed to be able to be displayed in both mph and km/h.

MB Speedometers in the UK used to only have mph readings, not dual ones as most manufacturers fit.

On some models this coding can be changed with Star

Hi FR, just for your info, on my CLK I can and have changed the speed readout (mph/kph/mph) on the central screen in the middle of the speedo, using only the steering wheel buttons - no STAR required I assure you.

Mine is a 2005 origin UK car. When I bought it in London it was showing MPH in large font on the centre screen, in addition to the normal printed, permanent numbers around the edge of the speedo. When I got home in France, I read the manual and changed the large MPH on the centre screen for KPH. This is in addition to the text line underneath the speed readout on the centre screen which amongst other things (eg outside temp) shows kph.

I hope I've described that clearly ?????

As stated, some models have different software versions that are coded to not allow this, maybe you car was changed by a previous owner?

Maybe so DSM, but it seems strange to me that a functionality (that is already there) that would be helpful to UK owners touring Europe is not permanently available to all versions???

But the format of showing a digital readout in km/h is or was the default for UK cars so UK drivers had this available when driving elsewhere

MB cars sold in the UK have the speed displayed in Kmh at the lower part of the screen (usually where the external temperature is displayed on non-UK cars). This display is permanent and can not be changed by the owner (though you can convert the instrument cluster from UK to non-UK using STAR, and the Kmh speed will be replaced by external temperature).

The large-font digital speed displayed at the centre of the instrument cluster however should be changeable between Kmh and Mph from the instrument cluster menu.

I had a 04 SL350 which I could change between MPH and KPH on the main speedo by using the steering wheel. Strangely my 04 SL500 won't let me do this. The SL500 has a digital KPH LED display on the speedo instead.

All I can say on this subject is what I've done on my car, with the intention of helping others.

You have the face-lift cluster, I think the options changed at that time.

Thanks for your comments.

I can go into menu and it shows mph and kmh, once pressed for mph it does naff all and the display - the bottom one still shows kmh. Obviously doesn't work on this car as per your suggestions, which seems odd as it works on the other 2 Mercs. I find it a handy feature.

Hi Nat, so you go to the menu in the photo and select MPH, do you then press the save button for 3 seconds then turn off the ignition? Then when you turn the ignition back on, it should have changed. That's how it worked on mine when I took the photos about an hour ago.

For some reason I can't see the pictures you've posted up. There's no save button on mine, that I can see anyway.

I can't see the pictures either.
I have had my instrument cluster coded on STAR (by Comand Online), so the so-called UK Mode was deleted, and I can now select to display either km/h or outside temperature.
I also gained a date display, and a couple of light convenience features, which I love :)

The button at the lhs of the dashboard is used to zero the trips AND act as a save button. Don't you have an owners manual ?

@markjay is right. The small letters one km/h can’t be changed without Star.
The central one with large font numbers can be changed from mph to kmph in setings.
