Hi all.
New to here with a newly purchased W123 200 1981 carb version.
Have a slight problem! I bought unseen very cheap as a no runner. I have had it delivered to me and for some reason the ht leads are off the cap. Although it is stated on the rocker cover for the leads I do not know where 1 2 3 or 4 are on the cap?
Please help!
Any info greatly received! Thank you in advance!
Nik

Take No 1 plug out and then turn the engine over by hand until No 1 piston is at TDC the rotor arm should then be pointing towards No 1 in the dizzy cap. Then just follow the firing order for the other leads.

Thanks for reply Trickythemerc!
How do i know when no1 piston is at the top?
Regards
Nik

Try putting a wire coat hanger down the plug hole and feel where the piston is.

1-3-4-2, with No1 at the front of the engine.
That applies to both the M102 and M115 (ie both 230 engines used in the W123).

You need to check distributor rotation in relation to TDC = top dead centre on number 1 cylinder[ top of compression stroke =both valves shut] that should mean the rotor arm is pointing at no 1 cylinder which should correspond to a notch on the rim of the distributor body The contact on the distributor cap above that should be connected to no 1 spark plug-- knowing the the direction of rotation of the distributor rotor arm and where no1 is -the next distributor cap contact in the direction of rotation is cylinder 3 the next 4 the next 2 and back to 1
M115 230 W123 No 1 cylinder nearest in foreground --distributor rotation clockwise looking down from the top
