morning ladies and gentlemen can i pick your brains please i have a 97 c200 auto i have aquired a droning/humming noise whilst driving it seems to get louder the faster i go i jacked the vehicle up one side got my mate to put in gear and accelerate while i looked underneath the noise didnt seem to start till it changed to 2nd then as it changed to 3rd it got louder and when you brake theres a metal clanking noise it doesnt appear to be near the hub area anyone any clues please

Wheel bearing is my guess, should be able to tell by jacking the car up, grab each wheel with both hands and wiggle them from side to side to check for play. Failing that it could be the prop/diff....
