Hi All, some assistance is needed, please!

I intended to take my car for a short run this afternoon but unfortunately, I cannot get into my R230 (early 2008) SL350 using either of my remote keys, although the red key light does flash when I press the lock, unlock, or boot release buttons on the keys. I cannot open the driver's door or the boot using the manual key either.
The car has started first time since I purchased the vehicle in July of this year, and although the temporary services message has popped up a couple of times, all has been well after about five minutes of driving.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi,

I had a similar situation with my CLK350. The RAC engineer dropped a cover underneath the engine and was able to attach a booster pack to the alternator. This provided enough power to open the doors and then replace the battery.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! The battery in the engine compartment is the starter battery, and I was assuming the problem might have something to do with the consumer battery in the boot?

This has been a fear of mine, never happened, although i leave mine unlocked and keep it is a secure garage. The Starter battery has never let me down, i believe that the car system is designed to ensure that the starter battery always has juice and will take some from the depleted 'consumer' battery to ensure that the car will start ( And then be able to charge up the boot battery / consumer battery.

My logic, flawed though it may be, is that if i can get into the car i can start the car ;)

I can get into the boot, I've put my Topdon on the battery and it doesn't even light up the screen. Driver’s door now opening - wiggled it left and right a few times
😀
and it did the trick. Looks like a consumer battery problem, as it started the first time off the key, although the digital clock is a few hours behind time, and orange warning triangle was on the dash. Tried my Topdon 101 again, and the consumer battery was below 11 volts so took it for a short run to see if “convenience functions” returned, and they have. Cleared the orange warning triangle with my iCarsoft, but will give it a good run tomorrow and check everything again.

If you can get your "Topdon" on the offending battery can't you get a charger onto it and give it a full overnight charge??

I thought about that but the rain kicked in and I can't get it in my garage at the moment, so will take it for a run tomorrow, and then leave it on charge throughout the day/night...👍
