I'm having the interiors swapped over on the two CLS I have; I've done the doorcards and the rear seats, and the cars are going up to Braybrooks at Welwyn for the rest on Monday - the centre consoles may need modifying, and they have the plastic welding kit and expertise to do it.
However, the 63's front SAM has thrown a wobbly; Central Gateway - wall-to-wall warning lights, continuous rolling programme of warnings in the central display, continuous bings and bongs, only working instrument is the fuel gauge. Terry Gates is going to replace it. On the newer stuff, the programming can only be done by MB's mainframe online; the tech on the ground isn't able to do it.
SAM ordered and paid for, arrived from Germany within the standard five working days. All good, then?
That would be too easy. Read on...
Terry's just bought the latest STAR from MB. MB cocked up the subscription, and Terry doesn't have the XENTRY function, so he can't programme the new SAM. MB's admitted the mistake, emails and phone calls exchanged, admin now sorted, all it needs is for MB's computer guys in India (yes, it's outsourced) to do their stuff and complete the setting-up.
All sorted, then? Not necessarily... According to Terry's last contact with MB HQ, it could take up to five working days. !!! Cue Victor Meldrew moment...
I'm hoping that that was just a bozo quoting the standard delivery time for parts from Germany, without actually thinking about what he was saying. It's all done online; unless the broadband between the UK and India is incredibly slow, or all the computer boys in India are incredibly busy, it shouldn't take more than twenty-four hours, even allowing for the time difference.
FFS.
