I fear the time is nigh......

To bid farewell to my trusty old R107 420SL. It's provided me with a great deal of fun over the last 5 years and fulfilled my original desire for something I could fettle after retirement. In fact, after the first 18 months of fettling, it's been so reliable I've not had anything to do other than half a day every year to service and check everything over, ready for the summer season.

So I'm feeling the need for a change and for something I can exercise the spanners on a bit more often. The 107 is a lovely old wafter but I feel it's time to let somebody else enjoy her now and move on to a new challenge. I fancy a nice sporty Italian job (40 years ago that would have been Sophia Loren!). I think, maybe an original Fiat 124 Spider or even a nice little Lancia Fulvia could fit the bill. I know it'll be a challenge to find something that doesn't leave terracotta coloured powder on the ground every time the door is slammed, but solid imports do exist I'm told.

So, onwards and upwards, to profanity and beyond...........
