Ice Driving

To be fair, nothing drives well on ice, except studded tyres!
I remember buying an Audi which came with Vredestein M&S tyres , with studs ; it was a parts car , but I put the wheels on my car during a period of snow , alas I wasn't quick enough removing them after the snow cleared and it was amazing how quickly I lost all the studs . I just used them as a set of normal tyrea after that .

SNOW SOCKS? less versatile and can only be used on non gritted snow. POPULAR in countries where they pack snow down rather than melt it. JUST A GET YOU OUT OF TROUBLE DEVICE but cheaper than chains

Indeed.

I have a few sets of chains in my container which I bought in case of getting stuck somewhere ; more of a hassle to fit than they were generally worth , but they are useful as ballast to keep in your boot to aid traction .

You also need to remove them smartly after coming off the snow .

Incidentally , Aldi and Lidl always sell snow chains in their centre aisles around this time of year , and they aren't expensive .

Ideal for keeping in the boot of a car on the south coast of England - Where it is pointless changing to winter tyres, as they are only needed once every few years if caught out by snow.
They helped my old W203 and S202 out of trouble a couple of times.
