c200 c240 xk8
Hi, first post on the forum. This is a truncated version of my introduction that was swallowed by the system yesterday.:wallbash:
Recently bought a 1995 c180 through family, really well looked after 2 owner car. I'm realy suprised how much i'm enjoying the car, and had plans to enhance the basic classic interior.
This is why i ended up with a 1996 c200 elegance intending to transfer the seats and other trim parts to the 180.

For variousr easons i've ended up restoring the 200, so now i have two 202s in the fleet, much to the dismay of Ms 2Two 202s.
So far fixed various electrical issues, front wheel bearing, noisey belt damper, boot lock and reseated all the tyres.
Still need to fix bad joints in the exhaust and find the origin of the current drain on fuse 2 in the boot fusebox.
I've learned a lot already on here and am happy to have seen the light.
Always been a Jaguar fanatic, but the truth is (as i always knew) like for like, the Mercedes is a superior machine.
Thanks all for a valuable forum. John

welcome to the site, im new to here too and the information has been invaluable already

Hello John
Welcome to the Forum :thumb:

Thanks for all the welcomes. Been busy on the c200 this week. I got it taxed yesterday and had a good run out today. It drives and performs really well and the only issue is a clunk when shifting at the back end.
I checked the donuts, which look good but can rotate the prop maybe half an inch free play, not sure if this is normal, or shows some wear.
Soon i will be repairing the rust on the arches and giving it a polish.
In the meantime i've been doing some interior improvements, re-covered the leather steering wheel. I got some cheap offcuts on ebay and made a pattern of the old cover. Then taped it onto the wheel and stitched it up.
It took me about 6 hours to complete in 3 sessions. It was quite a tedious procedure, but i'm more than happy with the result.
It did make the rest of the interior look a bit tired, and i thought i'd see what else i could cover with the remaining leather.
After fitting vacumm and oil temp gauges in the space below the radio I had nowhere for a voltmeter. I couldn't find any pods that looked suitable until i came across a set from a shogun, like the ones here- mitsubishi compass alti inclonometer thermo spare bulbs on eBay (end time 21-Mar-11 12:17:46 GMT)
which I covered in the leather and fitted above the centre vents. I can add three more gauges in this, and i think it doesn't look out of place, like the A pillar gauge pods can.
I got hold of some more leather and plan to do the centre console lid, gearknob and maybe all of the wood, as there seems to be too many different materials conflicting with each other now.
I'll post some pictures of the results when i've got a little more done.
Normally this is the time of year i get the xk8 back out after the winter, but i've not felt the same pull towards it after getting the C classes!!!

Hi John and welcome to the forum. Can I suggest you post the various jobs you are doing in the technical section. That way you will get more people looking and offering advice.
