Car
This and that.
My coupe's been very sick for a month now :(

I need to know what make of ECU I have (VDO or Bosch), and I need the numbers off it.

Where the heck is it?

TIA

PJ

Take a look at my engine post, plenty of pics there ;) they are located behind the battery as mango man said... I think the thing in the footwell is something to do with the alarm??

Thanks Ady, I think I was getting mixed-up with the w126. I think they were in the footwell, sorry. ;)

Found it!
Thanks.

So how do I read the part no? Do I have to take the battery out, or is there a simple way?

Got to be honest Bill, I can't make head nor tail of that diagram...:o

Send it off to a specialist for diagnostics rather than think about replacement at this stage.

Is it still the 'missing' problem you had in early January ?

If so, and it happened suddenly, it could well be one of the coils.

You really need a Merc specialist that is familiar with your car.

They need to read the codes, and that will confirm whether one of the coils are down.
How far are you from Rothley Leicester, because there is a specialist there that is very experienced on your car.

Thanks Sp!ke. That's what I'm trying to do, but they need to know the part number first, and I don't know how to get it, because I don't know how to remove the ECU.

kth286: Yes, it's the same problem, and well-known specialist Craig Wilson has had the car since then. He's checked the coils, the MAF, the OVP and the crank sensor. He put the car on STAR, and it gave an ECU fault.

Apparently, he can get the chip that I need, and have the ECU repaired, but it's taken a couple of weeks so far, and still no chip. I have no time left, I need the car back on the road, and if he can't come through by the end of tomorrow, I'm going to have to go elsewhere. I'm thinking of www.ecu-testing.com, because I don't know of anywhere else.

PJ

PS: I will be replacing the coil packs as a precaution anyway, but I've been led to believe they're not the cause.

Can anyone help me with how to get the ECU out? Do I actually need to in order to get the P/N off it?

Thanks

There is 2 ECU's one is for the ABS, which I think is behind the Enging ECU, you should be able to pull the plug off the top, there is a metal clip one end, then unbolt it there is 2 or 3 8mm bolts, bolted to a bracket that is bolted to the bulk head.. Hope this helps?

EDIT :- just found this out, it is the old 12Valve one but, yours wont be to different.

Thanks Ady,

So I do have to get the battery out - fair enough; not a problem.

At least I now know what I'm looking for behind it.
