Thanks Sp!ke. That's what I'm trying to do, but they need to know the part number first, and I don't know how to get it, because I don't know how to remove the ECU.
kth286: Yes, it's the same problem, and well-known specialist Craig Wilson has had the car since then. He's checked the coils, the MAF, the OVP and the crank sensor. He put the car on STAR, and it gave an ECU fault.
Apparently, he can get the chip that I need, and have the ECU repaired, but it's taken a couple of weeks so far, and still no chip. I have no time left, I need the car back on the road, and if he can't come through by the end of tomorrow, I'm going to have to go elsewhere. I'm thinking of
www.ecu-testing.com, because I don't know of anywhere else.

PS: I will be replacing the coil packs as a precaution anyway, but I've been led to believe they're not the cause.
