HI ALL can anybody recomend a ariel for incar tv and were is the best place for them to go eg, bumpers, windows, thanks

I test drove an S500 before I got my c-class and the TV on that worked fine on the go. Granted I couldn't see it but I could hear it.

Ive had a few W220's and a W215 with TV and they have always been "ok" but not good... watchable standing still on a mountain but once driving you might aswell forget it...

hi jay yep i know what you mean there thats why i thought id ask to see if anybody had any success as they all tell you they work ok thanks

The other thing to consider is the fact we will soon be going digital. How will this effect any signal?

Yup I'm also curious.

Regards
John

ok il keep you all posted on what i get and how it all goes but im not going to get over excited:bannana: :)

Isn't illegal to have a tv screen viewable by the driver on whilst is motion ?
Or am I mislead/out of date ?

The analogue tv in my car works just fine. Obviously you lose the picture while driving as a safety feature, but haven't had issues at all. My better half sometimes uses the teletext feature while we're on the move to look up flight times or the weather forecast and that works well too.

As far as digital is concerned, DVB-T receivers will not deal as well with being on the move as an analogue receiver at higher speeds, but that cannot be avoided AFAIK.

For the driver, but passengers can still watch i think (Headrests etc)

My installation is all factory fitted and I have never taken it apart.

There are in fact several aerials in the car, two of them in the rear bumper. There is also a small roof mounted aerial, but I'm not sure that one is involved in the tv reception (it's telephone and navigation as far as I know). There is also a signal amplifier involved, which I think resides in the rear roof rack, although it's exact location is not that relevant obviously.

incar tv

hi all i said id get back when job done i have fitted a alpine tv tuner and arial and got the interface from ebay. really pleased with this good picture all round anybody need any info pm me

Merc now put aerials in the rear windscreen (2 upright) and in the rear side windows (an antenna with a horizontal section and a 45 degree section) (one in each window) - total 4 antenna

Go find a new ML (any, all UK ones have the aerials in the glass) and look at the rear most side windows and also at the main rear window.

Richard

[edit, to use the antennas in the glass, MB adds antenna amplifiers, in the case of the ML one below each rear window and one double amp in the rear windscreen. The W220 S and W215 CL have the antennas in a pack of 4 at the top of the rear windscreen.]

sorry guys did no pics but its so plug and go its untrue ..just put the ariels in the windows one in front and one in the back total job bout 2 hours really very pleased with the result

i had an Alpine Ai-net system installed into my W208, which inc a tv tuner.
As it is a convertible the guys at Alpine installed the antennas into the corners of the front windscreen.

They did say that they would normally have them install near or at the top of the rear window.

As for reception on stand still it is fine, on moving the reception does decrease i little bit but it is still watchable

I have found that you get far more problems with DVb digital tv installs, quality and signal drops off all the time unless the car is not moving.

I guess its to do with diffent areas and digital signal stregnths, even with diffent arials / signal booster they all produce the same results.

has anyone else had like problems with signal quality with DVb digital

hi 504 i have dvb freeview with the alpine arials and have real good on the move pic on my farm land ofcourse.....

the one i fitted in my SEC seems to be good, but simply will not work at my workplace which is in a valley... even house aerials are put on stilts around here.

They were just aerials i got free with the rest of the kit... work well considering they only retail at £50 or so..
