It's that time again and Direct Line are still wanting to charge me £450, so off to compare.com, supermarket.com and confused.com seeking that illusive deal.

But, surprisingly results from all are similar and still around £450, so has anyone some recommendations? Maybe classic car insurance is suitable?

<2000 miles annually
9+ NCD
+12 years license
spouse as named driver (similar conditions as above)
No claim in past >7 years
both drivers >30 years old
parked on drive etc...

Any tips would be much appreciated.

we pay around the same with direct line, i have hunted around and it seems quite rasonable.

We have a 1991 500SL and have limited milage of 6000miles

Try NU direct....I paid £370 I think

Elephant were a lot cheaper than Direct Line for my R129.

Most insurers won't insure you on a classic policy unless it's garaged.

Hmm ... that sounds like something I should check out as mine is over 10 years now, and garaged, and low annual mileage.

Hi Guys

Many thanks for the tips. Here's what I discovered.

Thinking that insurance companies simply want to entice first time customers then hope they're too lazy to change and begin slowly ramping the premiums; I decided to try for a requote on DL's site.
Ah ha, a saving of nearly £100 :) down to £350 :bannana:

Just by simply requesting an online quote!

I also cancelled my second car's DL policy (as it happened to be on auto renewal and got a on-line quote for this car also - ah ha, another £100 saving plus both cars now have 0%APR should I wish to use DDebit facilities..

So, I thought I'd call DL just to confirm and the sales person actually agreed that this was the best practise and it was a breath of fresh air to hear that a customer was happy to simply get requotes on-line as customer services CANNOT do anything to lower quotes, no matter how bazaar the system is and level of ranting and raving..

Moral of the story, ensure policies are not on auto renewal and get requotes each year.

Oh, I also tried gocompare and that returned £445 as the lowest offering, and today Hastings Direct - £550!!!

Hope this is of some use..

Ohhhhhhh,

Thought I'd give moneysupermarket.com a go... and Lancaster came out number 1 at £187 for 2000 miles - :bannana: :bannana: - I think that warrants two bananas :)

Thanks BT B500..

So, who are Lancaster? They appear to be simply a broker as my actual policy provider would be Allianz Insurance..

2000 miles is not alot, I would check to see what they will charge you if you go over this mileage.

I have my SL on a classic policy with 6000 miles.

Hi wobbly

Yeah, I experimented with the mileage fields. They charge per 1000 miles, but as the increase was around £60 for 3000 there's no need for my situation.

My SL is my weekend baby and '2 day a week' work commuter - work being a 10 minutes drive :)

ah, just thought, next month I'm heading over to Stuttgart to have a new soft-top fitted....best increase that to 3000! Luckily I haven't purchased as yet :)

However, at £240 for <=3000 miles it's still a further £100 saving :D

I insured through Adrian Flux 08700772233.

Cover is with Equity Red Star. Classic policy, agreed value, 6000 miles,£279.50.

Might be worth giving them a try.

cheers but no thanks

Mate's having a nightmare with them, well actually one of their insurance providers, after his right-off - due to poor road surface.

Not saying they're the issue but...once you hear of a story close to home...

Thanks
Lea
