There are no three year old Porsche Panameras, are there? When did they come out?

Within each segment it's also interesting to know the depreciation in £. A heavily depreciating Megane might still be cheaper than an A3.

And also the heavy discounting when buying new, I would bet that these figures are based on list prices and not 'actual' prices.

1. Depreciation is compared to RRP, but the typical fleet favourites are sold well below RRP to begin with, so the real-life depreciation is much lower (for fleet buyers).

2. Cars that are usually sold with huge discounts off RRP (e.g. Vauxhalls sold with 3-years 'naught percent' finance) again fall in the same category as the initial purchase price - once the value of the 3-years finance is factored in - is much lower than that used for the depreciation calculation.

3. Depreciation also varies by variant within the model range - large petrol-engined models will depreciate more than their frugal diesel-sipping siblings. Also, estates tend to have better resale values and lower depreciation than saloons.

4. And finally... there's nothing wrong with free-falling lift depreciation on a new car - all it means is that it will be a bargain for second-hand buy...

God,my S-Class is four years old with 75,000 miles. I will have to pay someone to take it away when i sell it next year!!!
