Intermittent Vibration

Hello All,

I've a 2010 250 CDI Estate Auto that has developed a intermittent vibration that varies in noise and can be felt through the steering wheel. Initially the garage thought it was a hole in the exhaust but it past the MOT emissions with flying colours. Another garage is thinking engine mounts. The timing chain has been checked and is OK.

It does seem to be worse in cold weather and when it was very cold (earlier in Dec) , I started the car after several days standing and put in reverse and felt like a clutch was slipping even though it is an auto. Vibration noise rises as higher revs applied when in motion. At idle not much vibration.

Anyone else experienced a similar set of symptoms. After any pointers I can share with a garage rather than spending many £ on mechanic hours to try and identify causes.

Are there any suspect bushes in the front suspension set up that could cause symptoms like this as I get occasional clunking noise when both wheels go over speed humps, but again nothing picked up on recent MOT

Thanks All

Jeremy

Might be worth a visit to an MB specialist buddy , they know these cars , where do you live ?
In reality it’s probably a simple problem to find

With a split propshaft it might be the central flexible mount is past its best?

This sounds so much like failing engine mounts. I'd just need to sit in it with the engine running to know.
